Should we take the offer and trade out for two firsts next year?

I would be fine with it if thats what Jerry does. But you really have to know who they really like and who is going to be available to know for sure if it should be done. (example) If Branch fell and the scouts have him rated very high, I would rather go get him.

I am 100% sure that I might agree with you

I am in concert wholeheartedly in such that I concur.

i.e. more details.
How many want to trade 22 to the Pats?

Picks generally gain a round. A 3 this year is worth a 2 next year.
In round 1 that trade should net you 10 spots or so to be considered a good move. So yes I would trade with the Pack, Lions, Raiders and other cellar dwellers.

Ah, i think you have that backwards. A pick next year is worth a round LESS than a pick this year.

I heard Peter King say that NFL people have told him that there are only 18 players in this year's draft with first round grades. If the Cowboys are sitting there at #22 choosing between Aaron Ross, Dwayne Bowe and Michael Griffin I would prefer they take the 1st next year. On the other hand, if they're sitting there with a legit Top 15 talent that slid like Reggie Nelson or Marshawn Lynch, I would take those guys.

I agree with you for the personal record of a 2nd time.

Goose disagreed with that when he was on with Norm.

On top of things as usual. Two first next year is awful nice. You have to consider what your realistic goals are this year as well. I see us as contenders this year. Should we spend our money this year to have a chance for the golden ring?

two first next year gives you more options than we have at the moment, trade up to get a QB (if Romo doesnt pan out - not saying he wont), trade up to get stud RB (if JJ keeps running into people), stay PAT and pick up 2 WR to replace the old fogies, 1 WR and a LT, LT and a NT...... the list goes on it allows the Cowboys to make a big splash next year without having to spend in FA cos in case you didnt notice theres a fair few contract back on the ranch that need to get done this year or next.

I expect this idea to go over like a lead balloon right now when draft excitement is at its highest... But should Jerry take one of the offers he said he had to do a 2004-style trade back for two #1s next year?

As anticlimactic as it would be right now, I think I might. Trading for future picks is one way to get ahead in a system built for parity. The Patriots among others have done this for years now. Yes, it's a letdown in the short term, but next year will be here sooner than you think.

Overall, this draft is fairly weak, and next year's should be better. Having two firsts might give us two excellent players, or we could use them to move up and get a guy like McFadden.

What do you think?
Generally speaking (in the absence of specific details), I'd be o.k. with trading out of the first round for a 1st next year and a 2nd this year (or maybe 2nd next year).

The two 1st and perhaps two 2nds next year would provide a lot of ammo.

I had a great time a couple of seasons ago watching and cheering against the Buffalo Bills (and Bledsoe) - hoping for the best possible draft choice. It was nice to have two games each week that I cared about.

Depends on how far we move back. If we move to like 45, that will be a tough one to swallow tomorrow.

But come next year, it would be great, especially if we are a good team. We could stay out of free agency, which would make me happier than anything.

Another nice thing about having 2 #1s. If a vet becomes available suddenly you could use that extra #1 to get him in a trade.

Well, it's rumored that Carolina might be interested in trading down so how about this instead. (since there are many here in love with Lynch)

Trade next years first round pick and this years second round pick for Carolina's 14th overall pick and grab Lynch at 14 and Anthony Spencer, Meriweather, CB, or a WR at #22?

Personally, if we did this and took Lynch at 14, I would take Spencer or Bowe at #22.

Johnson has about 5 inches, and 80lbs on him. I'm willing to bet Jackson isn't faster than or stronger than Johnson either...

I'm a fan of the idea, given we can trade with a team that is on the wrong path. If we could land a pick in the 8-12 range, we could easily take next year's "Calvin Johnson." ...A player that could put us over the top for a number of years to come. Mcfadden is the obvious choice as of right now.

Absolutely hell no.

I am glad to see so many people here willing to delay some gratification tomorrow for a good reward a year from now. :) I really thought 90% of people would be against trading back.

Isn't that what I said.
I guess the ..picks generally gain a round.. was incomplete enough(i.e. did not state gain a round if traded for a future pick) to be confusing but the example is pretty clear i'd think:)
