Should Witten have played?

Made a key first down and a great block on a key run by Murray as we needed to run out clock at end. Showed grit and set a good example for loving game, wanting to play, and playing through injury.

BUT, he looked very sore, and didn't seem to be able to run 1/2 as well as he looked in early pre-season.

Had a hold on a block, got shoved around a bit, and whiffed once, and also had a false start (he's gotta stop those as a "Leader" on this team).

Love the guy, not sure coaches should have used him as much. Hanna was a more threatening receiver route-runner in the game.

Witten is still a few weeks away from fully healthy.

Clearly Witten wasn't 100%. But he was a huge inspiration to his teammates. For that alone, I'm glad he played. Hopefully, he'll be 100% (or close to it) by the Seahawk game.

This.

I didn't think he should have played and felt that he was a liability on the field since he hasn't played or practiced in a few weeks but listening to Ogletree afterwards talking about how inspirational Witten was to the team I'm glad now that he did.

But WT? asking a hurt Witten to block JPP single-handed ? I didn't get that , that was the whiff, I think U mentioned?

He did bring an emotional aspect , but should have been taking longer breaks and let Philips and Hanna share the load .

Witten needed this game because he has not played football for some weeks.

He was not his bad self, but he is a thoroughbred that needs his fix, and he got some game action.

Also, as others have said, in the locker room when the other players saw him suiting up, there were high fives all around. That just motivates the others to want to go fight for not only the team, but for him also.

He will come back stronger than ever next game.

Whatever it takes to get this team fired up, I am all for it!

I agree, him being out there I think was a real boost to the team. Granted he looked rusty but I think he helped to inspire this team and maybe gave some young guys a taste of what it means to be dedicated to the team and the sport.

I don't think he should have stayed out there. It was an inspiration I'm sure, but he was just horrible and really was hurting the team. I don't want to see him back out there until he is actually game ready.

Hurt or not the Giants had to account for a Pro Bowl tight end, and it opened things up for Ogletree in the coverages.

Witten was probably thinking..."lacerated spleen? Huh...If Romo can go play with broken ribs and a punctured lung or a hand the size of a watermelon...hell, I can play with a lacerated spleen!"

Witten is a throwback player, and there are not many in the NFL like that today. Well, Maybe Mart B....

You care to point out just exactly how he hurt the team?

Sheesh....

I don't think he should have played, but him being there was a big morale booster for the team. He's definitely not 100%, but can't wait to see this team when he is!! I was wondering why they weren't using Phillips more too, especially when Witten was sitting on the bench.

He was NOT hurting the team.

He played like complete garbage and was good for debilitating penalties?

What penalties? A false start and a hold?

(some peoples kids)

To me having him suit up puts his status inside the top five Cowboys of all time. The guy is a hero and an inspiration. Romo showed it last year and Witten topped it now. Yes it was close to wreckless with his health, but he got through it and you can say he was off his game on one play or another, but they won the game so just stop *****ing and admire one of the last of dying breed.

Well by your logic Ware hurt cuz he had a penalty.

Tyron hurt the team because of a few false starts! He should not have been out there...

Yeah, I think the wiff I mentioned was on JPP. Wasn't a criticism, was part of my question as to wether he should have played, or played as much.

What if he would have gotten re-injured and we lost/lose him for 8 games because he hurried into line-up.

I had mixed feelings about it, that's why I started the post.
