We could move orton for a pick since we are short picks and cap space and the sign kolb or Jason Campbell.

Hopefully they would just be watching all year anyway and maye we could turn a fiver six into a good running back.

Maybe the kid from Mansfield who went to Stanford.

But in the end, was Jenkins the difference in our season? No. Wouldn't you rather have, say, a 4th rounder right now?

And I'm not anti-Jenkins. Maybe nobody was interested in him because of the shoulder anyway. He was just an example of how we hold onto possible trade pieces in the hopes they'll help us *this year* instead of building up our draft stock like other teams (e.g. Patriots) do.

our approach, or Jerry's anyway, is the equivalent of going all in with a pair of 2's. sometimes you got to fold and live another day. holding on to Felix and Jenkins for a playoff run was ridiculous and points to our perennial failure to evaluate our own talent.

how about drafting a serviceable backup? Other teams do it. San Fran did it and rode him all the way to the SB even though they had the 1st overall pick as their franchise qb in fold. we're doomed anyway if we lose Romo. i say save the cap dlls and trade him for a safety or something

I would agree that Dallas should have attemped to trade Jenkins last season. I said back then what is the use to holding on to him since he would be a FA this season and we had just signed Carr and drafted Claiborne. It was nothing personal aginst Jenkins frankly I like the guy but if Dallas was not going to sign him to a deal then we only set ourselfs up to lose a player and get nothing in return.

I agree, it never hurts to groom a young QB. But SF is not the best example to hold up of a team investing when they didn't have an apparent need. Quite the opposite.

They were actually a team everyone felt really DID need a QB.

I don't think anyone believed Alex Smith was the long-term solution in San Francisco when they drafted Kap.

They drafted Kap in 2011, before Smith had the good, bus-driving season... and they had no evidence at all that Smith was anything more than JAG.

We have a horrible Oline. It is not a matter of if but when Romo goes down. Orton would be a solid backup.

Nice analogy, I like it.

Jerry is stuck on the 2007 / 2011 Giants paradigm and never looks beyond the current season.

true, not the best example. new england? they had bledsoe, the first overall pick and went ahead and drafted his back up in tom brady. of course that's the complete opposite of the spectrum. we on the other hand have invested 4 picks in qb's since 1989.

Always a good idea.

Clearly he plan here is to get better fast and have a real shot with romo in the next two years.

Plugging n vets for a year at a few positions might allow us to draft players for both lines for a change.

hopefully we address both lines often and heavy this upcoming draft. but hey, a 5th rounder on a qb couldn't hurt.

No it couldn't, unless a running back who can help this year or tight end s sitting there.

This team has two offseason worth of work to do.

No! why would Dallas create a depth problem at the most important position on the team? Rediculous!

Alex Smith was/is in no way a FRANCHISE QB. SF knew that when they used 2ND ROUNDER for Kapernick. They drafted Kapernick to eventually replace Smith because Harbaugh did not like Smith. The injury gave Harbaugh the excuse he needed to speed up the process.

Dallas has to many holes elsewhere to waste a pick on a QB this year. Unless someone really drops (as in someone Dallas thinks has 2nd round talent falling to the 5th) its not gonna happen.

I dont see how we couldn't get something decent for orton. I know he could start somewhere. But knowing our luck we'd trade him and romo would go down. KNOCK ON WOOD. I LOVE ROMO! Hes a great qb!!!

They invested in 7 qbs since 1989.

1. Troy Aikman
2. Steve Walsh
3. Steve Beuerlein - trade involving a draft pick
4. Bill Musgrave
5. Quincy Carter
6. Drew Henson - trade involving 3rd round pick
7. Stephen McGee

I think Orton's best trade value would come when a teams franchise qb gets hurt for the season and a team is still in the playoffs. If they feel they can trade him the best bet is during the season when they can get more for him.
