Three months ago, we were building a statue in honor of J.C. Copeland. (This year's Adrian Hamilton.)

Not only did Clutts win the job, Copeland was beat out by Nikita Whitlock on the practice squad.

I noticed Clutts' excellent blocking too. At the start of the season, I got yelled at for insisting we keep Clutts. I've never been sold on the "do it all with tight ends" hype. There's no substitute for having a quality fullback. Emmitt Smith had Daryl Johnston. Roger Craig had Tom Rathmann. I like that the other team can load the box with 8 or 9 and we can run successfully anyway. I love that we must be giving defensive coordinators fits when they struggle to stop our run and we run successfully anyway or burn their butts on playaction. (Incredibly, I was yelled at also for suggesting playaction, which obviously has worked well too.)

And I love Clutts' name. LOL. He must take some ribbing for that.

What's interesting about Clutts is he's a big guy, sets up to deliver a punishing block but then just has a way of kind of just planting and receiving impact from the defender. It's effective because I have not noticed him getting pushed back at all and he does not appear to miss his target often. No complaints here at all.
