Shudder the thought, but would this get Jerry to step down?

How do you have time for this? You should be recruiting your cult members. Maybe CZ could setup a Cult Zone for you to discuss your plans to sacrifice yourselves for the betterment of Jerry Haters around the world.

I am recruiting cult members. I figured other people who grew up with sexual fantasies about Ginger Grant would be the perfect recruits. Mary Ann, pfft! Everyone knows Ginger was the hot one.

Good thing I'm not joining because it was Mary Ann over Ginger for me.

This scenario would be awful, but do you think it would be enough to get Jerry to step down? The scenario is 5 straight extremely ugly losing seasons, and I mean very ugly, 3 and 13 or worse each year. Fans get so bored and frustrated that they stop coming to games. Our fans' seats get sold to opposing fans, and each game looks more like a home game for the other team. Like I say, very, very ugly. Would that be enough to finally convince Jerry that maybe being GM just isn't worth it? Maybe he hires a GM and enjoys more time in the Cayman Islands.

We've had 19 years of UGLY seasons. Nothings changed, nothing will. Why would he? He's providing great entertainment!!

The problem is that guys like Parcells will no longer want to coach in Dallas. The system is dysfunctional in Dallas and most coaches who could go anywhere won't go to be ruled by Jerry.

Jerry will never give up enough of the decisions making to get a Parcells type coach. Jerry did it once and decided it wasn't fun.

Jerry is running the team like a corner mom and pop grocery store. One kid at the cash register, another handing out flyers in the neighborhood nad grandchildren stocking the shelves. And the wife painting the place. The problem is that you can't run an NFL franchise like a local 7-11.

And big name coaches know that.

apparently you can

Nope. Jerry would rather destroy this franchise than admit he's wrong.

Then we'll have his son for 40 years.

Not quite. By ugly I mean 3 and 13 or worse. We've had 19 years of mostly mediocrity and some below average play with an occasional bright spot such as the 2007 regular season and the 2009 playoff win. What I wondered was if going totally into the tank would wake Jerry up. What I'm thinking after reading the posts is that it would get his attention, but he probably wouldn't take the right action. He probably wouldn't remove himself. He would probably take all kinds of other desperate action.

Answer: no

The scenario is more likely to occur when the team is enjoying success than not.

The only thing that would JJ consider selling the Dallas Cowboys is when his business posts substantial financial losses.
He wont give up GM because of team losses. He needs the GM position to have more control over financial decissions. And money is all JJ is about.

Nope.

I think only ill health or a better business opportunity than the Cowboys was available.

And I don't think the Playboy Empire is for sale.

So..health will be my answer as to how to get Jerrah Boy out.

LOL, there's a plan. Get Jerry to become the next Hugh Hefner so that he forgets all about the Cowboys.

You have to pretty, uh, naive to think this would work.

"Fans get so bored and frustrated..." -> yep, they sure do
"...that they stop coming to games." -> will never happen, ever ever

It's happened in Cincinnati and other cities. It could happen in Dallas after multiple extremely ugly seasons. Alas, what probably won't happen is for Jerry to give up his stubborn ways. We could probably have five straight 1 and 15 seasons and he would think the best thing for the team is for him to be GM.

It would get you another Parcells type situation. Where the new coach is basically revamping the franchise but it will be made clear that Jerry is still the GM. He'll pick his spots to meddle rather than rule with an iron fist like he does now.

The only thing that would ever force him to stop this nonsense would be for our fans to actually revolt and not spend a dime on his product. He'd have to at that point. He's not in the business of losing money. But that won't ever happen.

I don't spend a dime on his product but he's still being Jerry so I'm just screwed huh?
