Nothing against Tomlin, but I don't want to wish the Steelers luck. I hope they totally fall off the face of the football world.
:hammer:

Not me...! I'm basically lazy, so, give me 10 mil for three years and I'm good to go...

;)

I couldn't deal with the failure if I didn't pull it off in that time.

I wonder if Russ Grim would be available?

The Steelers running a 4-3....interesting.

I wonder if some of their LBs would be expendable?

Lots of possibilities here.

Correct.

That is a very talented defensive staff that has a completely different philosophy than Tomlin.

Think about the possibilities.

I said I was lazy, not dumb! I would get it RIGHT in my three years!

all of a sudden pittsburgh is racist? Based on what?

who has the right to declare that in an article...?

And if a team that has run the 34 *forever* doesn't feel the need to limit themselves to a 34 coach, I hope our fans would see that we certainly don't have to, either.

I think tomlin said last week after his interview that he was comfortable in any defense.

So he may just leave it alone.

Why does it make me think this was a more PC move then a coaching move?

In my experience people will say anything in a job interview.

You can think that, but no way do I think a team would invest millions in a guy to be PC.

I don;t know; anyone coming from the Vikings mess does not thrill me.

What I wonder about; is how much does his skin color come into it. Remember, it is CALLED the ROONEY RULE.

This is true, but for a job interview like this, wouldn't you have to put together some sort of playbook to SHOW you can do it? Have some examples at least.

They actually had a decent defense this year. Not dominant, but it was decent.

That said, the Tampa-2 is finished as a base defense and it would do him well to change philosophies.

MAYBE. And maybe they were not just thinking about coaching a football team either.

The rule was to force teams to interview candidates of color, it wasn't meant to force them to hire them...even the team for which it was named after the owner.

One thing I recall is that the Steelers were one of the first teams to have a black QB, so I don't think it was a stretch for them to hire a black coach. Doesn't mean much to me other than they've continued their color-blindness as it pertains to talent and judgement.

Oh I'm sure he's knowledgeable enough to talk the talk, but he may not be completely comfortable with a base 3-4 defense and as we have all seen, that's not exactly a good thing.

Where are his contract numbers?

It could be just "million" and that was a factor in his hiring.

And there is a reason why it is dubbed the "Rooney Rule". I wouldn't dismiss the idea, not in the least.
