Top 10 WR Corps in NFL

1 day ago :: 54474 Views
The Patriots have made several moves this offseason to address their lack of receivers, but I don't think they've built one of the top five WR corps in the NFL. Here is my list. Let me know what you think:

  1. Cincinnati - Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chris Henry - Henry is suspended for half the season, but Johnson and Houshmandzadeh are good enough to carry this offense.
  2. Indianapolis - Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez - Lots of early buzz on Gonzalez, the rookie out of Ohio State, who should excel in the Brandon Stokley role.
  3. Arizona - Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Bryant Johnson - This group should get better as Matt Leinart becomes more comfortable.
  4. Detroit - Roy Williams, Mike Furrey, Calvin Johnson - This may seem high, but Williams is a Pro Bolwer and Johnson is going to be special.
  5. St. Louis - Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Drew Bennett - Holt is still one of the best, Bruce is dependable in a complementary role and Bennett will do well here.
  6. New England - Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte' Stallworth, Jabar Gaffney - This unit could move up to top three or fall off the map. It will be interesting to see how Tom Brady spreads the ball around.
  7. Dallas - Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, Patrick Crayton - If T.O. has as many drops as last year, this group falls out of the top 10.
  8. Denver - Javon Walker, Rod Smith, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Stokley - Smith and Stokley are coming off injuries, but at least one of the two should be productive. And Marshall has a lot of upside.
  9. Carolina - Steve Smith - Yes, there's only one guy here, but he's good enough to carry whoever the Panthers line up on the other side.
  10. Pittsburgh - Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Cedrick Wilson, Nate Washington -- Ward is as solid as any other receiver in the NFL and Holmes is on his way up. The Steeles may open up their offense a bit this year, which would help these wideouts.

I agree with 1, 2, and 3; I agree that an argument can be made for 4 and 5, though I disagree with that argument; but I don't see any way that 6 is a better receiver corps.

I think St. Louis makes this list based on past reputation alone. I do not think they belong in the top ten based on current ability.

This thing is a bit of a mess. I see why Cincinnatti is ranked #1, but they listed a guy who won't be playing half the season...

Indy ought to be first. FO ranked Harrison and Wayne 1 and 2 last year, with Housh and Johnson 4 and 5, and TO and Glenn 8 and 9.

It ought to be 1, 2, 3...just like that. New England has no place there. I could see Arizona at 3. But Crayton drives us way up, IMO.

see i can agree with 1 and 2 ... but 3 4 5 6 and 7 could be anybodys game. The boys should be AT LEAST to number 4 maybe even 3

Both WRs were over 1000 yards last year and they added Drew Bennett...they certainly deserve their ranking.

Noticeably absent from the list is the Skins trio of Santana Moss (a truly talented player) Brandon Loyd (no comment) & Antwan Randle-El (no comment.

Wasn't it just last season that those trumpets were blowing long and hard. :laugh2:

4 and 5 are really questionable: especially in Detroit's case, the QB will have to stay upright, not a strong point of Martz' approach. Arizona's position depends a great deal on the OL; they're moving in the right direction, but this looks a lot like "gee they've got a great plan on paper". I think it more likely that NE and Dallas are somewhere between 4 and 6.

Apparently Perloff values drops more than TDs in Dallas' case.

We'll see. There are still plenty of more years for this to be played out.

I am not saying I'd have done it, but I do understand the logic in trying to get a top notch pass rusher.

I like what they've done recently though....adding Okoye to Williams forms a very nice (or should) DT/DE tandem. If they can get production out of Babin (who was better last season than he ever was in a 3-4), that DL is going to look good.

And if Travis Johnson ever amounts to something, that's going to be a good DL (it should be, since all 4 are 1st round picks).

But Kubiak is only responsible for Okoye and Mario (in terms of drafting them). And that looks to be a good start (with Demeco at MLB too).

Perloff is a dork who's never played an once of football in his entire life. I don't give credit to anything he says in his blogs....

If you gave me any WR corps in the NFL, I'd hesitate for a very brief few seconds to ponder gambling that Calvin Johnson will be as good as I think he will be...and then I'd choose the Cardinals WRs.

I'd take Lions.

Calvin and Roy together are going to be sick.

Absolutely disgusting.

Once I see it, I may agree. I have to see it first. I swear Fitz could catch a BB if you shot it at him. Great hands.

Understandable.

But I swear Calvin can catch a BB too, if you shot it at him.....while he was falling down forwards and reaching back.

IMO, these rankings should be based on previously played combinations and production--and not by fantasy football perceptions. No one will know how well new receivers introduced to an existing corps will affect everyone's productivity. And why the heck was Carolina even mention? A wide receiver corps of one? Please.

Using his list of teams, these are my rankings:

1. Cincinnati
2. Arizona
3. Dallas
4. Indianapolis
5. Denver
6. St. Louis
7. Pittsburgh
8. Detroit
9. New England

By the end of the season, his rankings may win out; but for now I don't agree with them.

Interesting they put Crayton in there instead of just leaving TG and TO. Hopefully some people begin to see that he's got some of the best hands in the league this season.

If they had a list for the best up-and-coming group of receivers, I'd like to think that ours would be up there. With Rector's preseason last August and Hurd/Austin's potential, I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

#9 Carolina - Steve Smith - Yes, there's only one guy here, but he's good enough to carry whoever the Panthers line up on the other side.

Must be an east coast mediot otherwise he would have included Dwayne Jarrett, or he could just be plain stupid.
