SI Pauline rumors

Oh I still believe we need to be prepared because football teams do not see things the same emotional way fans do.

I don't agree that cutting Davis or Colombo can be considered emotinal, given the way each performed in 2010.

But in my latest mocks I have been mentioning every single one of these possibilities. Not without reason.

I think all speculation can change in a moment. If they set the cap at $140 million to get a deal all this changes. If they play another uncapped year, all of this changes. These are still "ifs."

Definitely agree with you here. I think a lot will depend on the labor agreement and a new total salary cap number.

But personally, I would want a significant reduction from Leonard Davis no matter what the cap parameters turn out to be.

Newman might be cut. Columbo might be cut. Davis might be cut. You don't say!

These are rumors, not fact. And anyone who has been paying any attention to this team at all would speculate these events.

Next you're going to tell me that Ball and Sensabaugh may not return. Or maybe Barber.

Wow! You mean some people actually saw this coming? Amazing!

I still dont believe they'd release Newman, and even if they do, they'd probably turn around and resign him to a more cap friendly deal immediately. He isnt subject to waivers, so we could resign him the next day.

He's still a quality player.
Yeah. It's all about Newman clobbering our cap space. They may need to do something about that.

Better find a vet who can start at CB.

glancing at a list of vet CBs who might be available, I'd argue we should try to sign Terrence Newman. He has an off year but has been solid for many years with a few flat out outstanding seasons.

oh... wait

I don't think his deal was really structured to go much longer anyway. He's due about 8 mill next year - anyone know the cap implications for his release? IIRC, he and Barber were signed to deals that made use of the uncapped year.

Most players in his situation are too proud to stay home and take the paycut.

You mean like AJ Hawk a month ago?

Plenty of players do it. He loves it in Dallas and Ryan spoke highly of him.

He's staying.

:signmast:

....but there is ZERO chance we play next year with the same OL - none.

I think so, too. Even though Hos is trying to scare us with his scuttlebut.

So we are going to release Columbo and Davis? This is not really news people, even Stevie Wonder can see that both of these guys suck!

As far as Newman goes, I have a hard time believing we are just going to cut him outright without a replacement already on the roster. We have only 3 corners on the team right now, Jenkins, Newman, and Scandrick.

You telling me that we are going to release Newman and just have Jenkins and Scandrick as the only true corners on the team and all the rest will be rookies?

We have to bring in at least 1, maybe 2 vet corners that are starting caliber if we are going to ditch Newman. We cant have 2 vet corners and a bunch of rookies in a pass happy league that the NFL is nowdays.

I don't care about Davis, but I get pissed when I hear people say Colombo sucks. The guy played really well for us for years. He got hurt. He might make it back but it is looking doubtful. I hope he does. I just think a little respect for what he has done for us is do him.

Love his attitude and toughness, but he's done.

When you are basically one of the three or four worst starting OL in football, you suck. Hate it for him, but its true.

I remember hearing it's a 6.8 million cap hit.

So you basically cut your best CB at the moment to save 1.2 million. I just don't think it makes sense to cut your best CB and not really gain anything. What is 1.2 million going to contribute that he doesnt? You can't even get a below average CB for that.

The guy is one of the worst offensive lineman in the league, he gets Romo killed on a weekly basis.

I am sorry if the truth hurts, but he flat out sucks. Maybe it is due to age, maybe it is due to injury, maybe it is due to him not giving a **** anymore. I dont know why and I really dont care why, the fact is he cant get the job done anymore so he needs to go.

Its not personal, its the fact that he cant get the job done anymore.

I think the team's convinced he was really limited by his turf toe problem at the end of last year. Not sure I agree, but I think that's factoring into their evaluation of how much is left on Colombo's tank.

You play with cap money. Jerry Jones deals with not only the cap but real money also. Cutting Newman saves Jerry Jones from paying Newman $8 M this year. Those are real dollars, not some figment of your imagination. That $8 M goes right into Jerry's pocket and he can go shopping. The bonus money to Newman is gone. It may be spread over the contract life and accelerated if there is a cap. If there is a cap this year, then Newman's cap hit will be his pro-rated bonus PLUS $8M if he is on the team.

Not only is Newman a cap-killer, he ain't worth anything close to $8 M, he is old, and he plain sucks. One can most likely get nearly the same or better performance from Scandrick, McCann, etc. at a fraction of the price.

No doubt we need to make some changes on OL but strangly enough we were 7th in the league with 24 points per game.
