I believe that Jones never had any intention of drafting Manziel, and for that reason, I am impressed that the FO is starting to realize just how to build a team (including recent history as well). Manziel would have set the team backwards...he would have sit for a minimum of 2 years and with an 8-8 team, your first round pick HAS to get on the field....they need starters, not someone that will sell jerseys...thrilled with a Notre Dame guy on Dallas, especially one that is ranked the highest at his position in the draft

O-lineman just aren't fun picks to most people. I doubt many are lining up to buy the new Martin jersey. They want to see the flashy big play guys. I for one think the boring drafts will lead to exciting post seasons. I am not a huge fan of Manziel for the record. He has a personality and face I would like to slap whenever I see him and I am not convinced that he is going to have the same type of success in the league. Time will tell, but either way the Cowboys made a smart football decision.

Two years from now people will forget all about Manziel, the guy cares more about partying than he does football.

The good news is that Jerry has to think Romo is going to recover completely to pass on the three top QBs, and enough to even draft someone to block for him. I think Manziel is going to have a good career in the NFL, although he needs some grooming and he'll probably start immediately for the Browns. Hopefully we'll beat him in the Super Bowl in 2 or 3 years.

He was drafted at 22. 20 (or so) out of 32 teams didn't want him enough to draft him. They probably don't feel sick right now.
Feel sick in 3 years if he is awesome and proves all the highly paid experts wrong.

I'll tell you what, all of you who are so called experts, happy we did not get a back up. Don't blame Jerry, if the days comes this season, when Romo takes a big hit from behind, and what Troy hinted to, comes into play.

Don't say Jerry made the wrong moves, for trusting in Tony, because right now, you are all backing it.

We already have a backup qb.

I have no problem if Dallas wants to go arron murray or look to next years draft to get a QB not everyone was sold on JF. Who is to say JF would be ready to play this year, Hell for this season I would gladly count on Orton to come in at a moments notice over Johnny Football

Irony can be a wicked thing. On the one hand, Cowboys fans are discouraged to flaunt the achievements of the franchise's past. We are not "allowed" to revel in past playoff successes and Super Bowl appearances and victories. We are told, "That was then. This is now. Those things do not matter in the here-and-now."

On the other hand, Cowboys fans are overwhelmingly compelled in acknowledging the mistakes of the past. In regards to the draft, we must continually wail about not picking Randy Moss. We must forever reiterate the failure of not upgrading the offensive line during Romo's prime years. These failures and more must be incessently repeated or somehow incredulously lose their proper perspective.

Of course, the argument could be made that the latter is true. Since the latter can be true, it is thus permissible to complain unceasingly about past mistakes. Yet, recollecting upon and honoring past franchise glories must be muted and shamed.

It's funny. It's hypocritical. And, most importantly, It's ironically sad.

The flipside of this is that Jones is extremely worried about Romo taking a big hit. I am too of course but IMO picking Martin is not going to prevent this. If Romo is as vulnerable as I(and apparently JJ) think he is, we're going to be in trouble I'm afraid.

They should have been trying to protect Romo better years ago. A little late now. Frankly I just hope that we use Murray a lot more this year....that's the best way to protect Romo and the best argument for taking Martin.

From the browns. Don't worry, if we really want JFF, he'll be available in a couple of (failed) years.

I know the "smart" thing was to pick Zack. Planning for our future, which is what most of you say we don't do, would IMO be drafting JM.
We will see but I have the same feeling as when we passed on Moss. I really honestly hope I'm wrong. But...

We passed on Moss, but drafted Greg Ellis. He was a very solid player for us for 10 years. He made a Pro-Bowl, was the comeback player of the year, and had 84 sacks. It's not like we drafted a scrub.

Agree with OP.

I don't mind the pick. Martin will be a nice player, but Greg Ellis was a nice player too, he just wasn't Randy Moss.

I strongly believe Manziel will have a Moss-like impact on the league.
