Sick of Spags Poll

Spags is an awful writer. Anybody who uses the word 'like' as often as he does (it's bad enough in spoken English, let alone in the written form,) is not fit to be a journalist.

The Poll gives you 2 options. Both of them have Spags leaving.

Why even vote?

Seems like a bunch of people figured it out but I guess I'd better make it clearer for you.

I wrote it quickly, and as I was throwing Spags out of town, I felt a tad guilty to take this cushy job away from the poor slob. I figured maybe he'd like it back in the big smoke since he's a huge white sox fan. So those who feel sorry for him can still be honest and throw him out of town but land him softly in a similarly cushy job in an apocryphal destination.

So the question is do you want him gone yes or no.

vote yes if you think he should go and vote no if you want him to stay.

Hope that helps, ;)

There's no reason for me to want him gone.

My initial revulsion wore off and he really grew on me. I prefer not to contemplate why.

He stays.

Looks like he is liked alot more than most think. Mickey is a Dallas Cowboys football homer like the rest of us. There is nothing wrong with that. DEAL

I like Spags, but he does need to hire someone to choose the e-mails that he responds to.

I take it then, that SPag's never replied to your emails? lol j/k

Personally, his commentary (if you even want to call it that) during the preseason games sealed his status in my eyes: I really can't stand listening to him talk. I can usually read his stuff without getting too worked up, but for lack of a better word, the guy just seems like an arrogant jerk. I'm sure he's fine to his colleagues or whatever, but the way he comes across with Babe and others, he doesn't know how to commentate and he doesn't seem to know how to interact with others either.

His writing is a different story. I don't enjoy it a whole lot either, but lately it hasn't been all that bad. I can at least stomach it, until I remember who is writing it.

There really is nothing to hate Micky for. I don't understand the attacks on him. In my best estimation they come from bandwagon people who have no real thought process of their own. Mickey is a fan that covers the Cowboys, gotta love him for that! But alot of people search and search for ways to pick Micky and others apart who cover the Cowboys closely.

For one it makes me wonder if some of these jokers are really Cowboys fans. For another it makes me wonder why people like to be so judgemental yet hate to be judged. But most of all it makes me realise why and how this world has become so askewed.

Go Dallas Cowboys and way to go MICK!

Real fans luv ya bro!

Isn’t it funny that most people who find Mickey annoying disagree with his takes on the cowboys? Those of you that loved Q Carter couldn’t stand it when he spoke the truth about him? He took a lot of heat about wanting Hutch over Carter but never once said that Hutch was the future of the Cowboys, just that he was an inexpensive project. He said that Carter was not long for the NFL, and was right and those Q fans couldn’t stand the fact that BP sent him packing.

These would be the same fans who howled when Bledsoe was brought in, yet I don’t see anybody who pissed and moaned about that coming back and eating crow. Mickey however called it right, said that Bledsoe had some gas left in his tank and could turn this offense around. Whether you like his writing style or not, Mickey isn’t afraid to speak his mind and I for one find his columns to informative and generally spot on accurate.

I just set this up for fun but it really seems that some people are passionate supporters of Mickey. One of his supporters actually suggested the completely asinine belief that a vote against Mickey indicated a bandwagon Cowboys fan. So a vote against Mickey is a vote against the Cowboys? Is that right? :lmao2: .
, but hey whatever to each his/her own.

I defended him at one point, but now I find he regurgitates information garnered from press conferences as though it's revolutionary, first hand info. The "remember, he wasn't even drafted or he's just a 5th or 6th round pick" arguments have become irritating to me. With a coach like Parcells who explores all the options on players from all sources, this pedantic yet much repeated argument of Mickey's makes him seem out of sync with the progressive approach of the Cowboys. And interestingly enough his colleagues on some of the other Dallas media outlets covering the cowboys seem to mirror my irritation. The guys on the ticket, his colleagues at DC.com radio and the guys he’s worked with broadcasting the games seem to feel he’s on a power trip and that he’s not the easiest guy to work with

One point was made about his unprofessional behaviour regarding Quincy Carter and his almost gleeful attacks and jibes at the QB's dismissal. I would think that most people would agree that Spags used his position and power at the time in a seemingly vengeful and thus completely unprofessional and juvenile manner.

The argument that he is a fan who reports on the Cowboys is also ludicrous. He is paid by the Cowboys to report on them. Perhaps I don't understand his entire history with the Cowboys. Perhaps members of this forum are aware of a remote Spags past where he was the lone guy in the blue and white paint, screaming obscenities at Commanders fans in a premiere seat in the old RFK. Perhaps Bum Philips, or even Landry saw his beat up carcass outside the stadium and offered to give him a job in sympathy for his stalwart allegiance to the fortunes of our beloved organization. Yes I suppose this is a possibility. If someone can confirm that this is in fact the genesis of my Spags discontent well then I will certainly reconsider.

Now all this being said. I understand it’s not easy to have to report on the Cowboys EVERY Day. He’s under constant pressure to produce adequate stories and can’t be blamed for a bit of repetition I suppose. Also, he doesn’t talk over his colleagues as much as he used to, so he obviously takes some criticism to heart and tries to improve.

One thing I will agree with all of you on. There was a time when he was the only steady source of cowboys news. Exspecially in the off-season when any nugget of info is SOoo freaking appreciated. I shouldn’t bite the hand that fed me those nuggets when I was a starving animal in a wasteland of basketball, baseball and hockey info.

So to conclude this treatise, and to give him the limited props he has earned as a voice in the wilderness, I stand with those fans who defend all cowboys reporters for their very existence.

All Hail the Spagsman!!! :toast2:

(I'd still rather read JJT, Goose, Eatman, Dale, Blackstone, this forum and especially Engle any day of the week)

I don't see passionate support for Mickey. I see people who just prefer not to go overbaord over a journalist.

I know one person who knows him personally and wouldn't say something bad about him with a gun to his head.

I just didn't see it that way at all.

Actually, if the truth be known the fact he causes such passionate feelings is proof he's successful. He's controversial. That sells. In other words the passion against him just makes him all the more appealing as a writer in many ways.

No one cares about a writer who causes no emotional response.

That's one of the reasons why I like him. But just one reason.

Last time I checked you're allowed favorites.

:wink2:

I just think he's a good guy who stirs emotions so he's hated. Makes him very interesting to me. Our very own Dale said something about him one time that was very telling. He said, "people should pay attention to him more."

He can tell you why if he so chooses. I do know the bashing of Mickey amazes him because he's told me so.
