I just set this up for fun but it really seems that some people are passionate supporters of Mickey. One of his supporters actually suggested the completely asinine belief that a vote against Mickey indicated a bandwagon Cowboys fan. So a vote against Mickey is a vote against the Cowboys? Is that right?

.
, but hey whatever to each his/her own.
I defended him at one point, but now I find he regurgitates information garnered from press conferences as though it's revolutionary, first hand info. The "remember, he wasn't even drafted or he's just a 5th or 6th round pick" arguments have become irritating to me. With a coach like Parcells who explores all the options on players from all sources, this pedantic yet much repeated argument of Mickey's makes him seem out of sync with the progressive approach of the Cowboys. And interestingly enough his colleagues on some of the other Dallas media outlets covering the cowboys seem to mirror my irritation. The guys on the ticket, his colleagues at DC.com radio and the guys he’s worked with broadcasting the games seem to feel he’s on a power trip and that he’s not the easiest guy to work with
One point was made about his unprofessional behaviour regarding Quincy Carter and his almost gleeful attacks and jibes at the QB's dismissal. I would think that most people would agree that Spags used his position and power at the time in a seemingly vengeful and thus completely unprofessional and juvenile manner.
The argument that he is a fan who reports on the Cowboys is also ludicrous. He is paid by the Cowboys to report on them. Perhaps I don't understand his entire history with the Cowboys. Perhaps members of this forum are aware of a remote Spags past where he was the lone guy in the blue and white paint, screaming obscenities at Commanders fans in a premiere seat in the old RFK. Perhaps Bum Philips, or even Landry saw his beat up carcass outside the stadium and offered to give him a job in sympathy for his stalwart allegiance to the fortunes of our beloved organization. Yes I suppose this is a possibility. If someone can confirm that this is in fact the genesis of my Spags discontent well then I will certainly reconsider.
Now all this being said. I understand it’s not easy to have to report on the Cowboys EVERY Day. He’s under constant pressure to produce adequate stories and can’t be blamed for a bit of repetition I suppose. Also, he doesn’t talk over his colleagues as much as he used to, so he obviously takes some criticism to heart and tries to improve.
One thing I will agree with all of you on. There was a time when he was the only steady source of cowboys news. Exspecially in the off-season when any nugget of info is SOoo freaking appreciated. I shouldn’t bite the hand that fed me those nuggets when I was a starving animal in a wasteland of basketball, baseball and hockey info.
So to conclude this treatise, and to give him the limited props he has earned as a voice in the wilderness, I stand with those fans who defend all cowboys reporters for their very existence.
All Hail the Spagsman!!! :toast2:
(I'd still rather read JJT, Goose, Eatman, Dale, Blackstone, this forum and especially Engle any day of the week)
