Here's some signings that I would consider looking at from what is left on the free agent market:

WR Dontrelle Inman - fits the size profile that the Cowboys like in their wideouts. Coming off of an injury, but has some potential. Not afraid to go over the middle.

OG Jack Mewhort - also coming off of an injury, but he's still young (26), and would be plug and play at LG. Very good run blocker.

RB Damien Williams - would provide the pass catching threat out of the backfield that Linehan has been forever searching for, since the Cowboys don't seem inclined to use Elliott in this manner.

DT Bennie Logan - would fix the 1T position with a true 1T who can hold up against a double team.

MLB Jerrell Freeman - had a PED suspension last year, but when he played for the Bears over the last few seasons, he was very effective. 31 years old, and likely would come cheap on a 1 year deal. Good run down player, and an effective blitzer.

OLB Jelani Jenkins - would provide depth on the outside. Guy who can run and will be a core ST player.

FS Tre Boston - only 25, he would provide playmaking deep, and covers the Cowboys for Byron Jones' move back to corner.

SS T.J. Ward - provides a veteran presence to a secondary that is lacking that aspect. Not what he once was, but can hit and set the tone for the defense.

Bennie Logan is a solid pickup and TJ Ward might actually not be so bad for us neither, but hes not what he once was.

FYI stupid little signings for backups are a waste of money. Paying guys who won't start 2mill a year are just as bad. It's a waste of money. That's where you draft guys rounds 3-5.

Shhhhh. Don’t speak of that around here!! We need those guys for good depth and to eat up cap space!!!

.... or so I’ve read that here lol.

In reality, we need some depth guys to eat up snaps.

We stIll have dead cap hits from Romo, Thornton, Carroll, Mayowa, Moore

Bennie Logan would be a good addition.

We loved him in the draft a few years back

Sign somebody who will freaking start not backup, heck you already have plenty of those now. Make last year's starter the backup. We are always signing backups and everyone else is getting new starters.

If you want starters, then you have to pay for starters. We don't pay, so that is why we are signing backups.

Yep.

Sign one guy that can start and make an impact....... like Mathieu for 7MM....... than signing bums like Carroll, Moore and Paea for 8MM combined.

This team needs to find linebackers in the draft. I am unsure if I want to use 19 on one due to this is a high injury position. I hope they find a few in free agency that would be great. Hopefully younger guys who are good special team players and guys to provide good depth.

It is a really bad mark on our player personnel and player development that our defense looks completely different with or without Sean Lee. Sure Lee is a stud when healthy, but it sure says quite a lot when our defense is average with Lee and one of the worst in the league without.

I am a firm believer you can find these linebackers in free agency and some don’t break the bank. You got to know where to look though.

Ok lets look at this realistically. We need a G/C type as a backup. Looks like Looney will leave. Doesn't have to be starting quality. Just a serviceable back up. If Cooper leaves town then we draft a G. Swing tackle, probably the same need in FA. Bell, gone. Chaz still here and will be for 2018 undoubtedly. LB'er? Big need in FA and the draft. We won't miss Wilber one bit except on ST's. He had 10 tackles last year. We need to sign a FA LB'er who can play BOTH Wil and Mike. Hitch we will miss. Draft a LB'er in the top two rounds

After just 4 days of FA all that's left is trash bin players?
I keep seeing posts like this that suggest that it's not over and there is still plenty of time left. But rarely does anyone who says this back it up or participate with their suggestions.

So who are the non-trash bin players you think are available and above all else, stand a reasonable shot to being within Dallas' spending thresholds?

Let’s also not forget these “there is still time” posts have come out for the last 2-3 years and yet the Cowboys didn’t actually deliver in FA.

It’s clear that his team has neither to desire and/or the competency to use FA to
really improve the roster. They use it to sign low level FAs hoping that maybe they get lucky.

They believe they can fix every roster issue through the draft.
