I know folks are wringing their hands over Ware's contract, I think the watermark should be wherever Suggs contract is...not Freeney's or Allen's. Yes he's a premier passrusher, but he's also considered a de/linebacker combo.

$25-30mil guaranteed is about right, especially if Joey Porter got an insane 20 mil guaranteed.

I only used Freeny and Allen because they have high numbers, I don't think there's a LB in the league that makes near 70mil, whether he plays in a 3-4 or whatever, so to think Ware is going to get "much more" than that seemed unlikely to me.

Suggs won't get 70 mil, if that's what he's asking, then it makes sense the Ravens just franchised him and told him to sit on ice.

I wasn't calling out you, specifically. I was speaking in general towards some of the general paranoia towards what kinda contract Ware should demand. Allen and Freeney have the big contracts for pass rushers, so I can see why folks will have some concerns.

The gold number for contracts is 30 mil guaranteed. The rest of it is just how they spread it out. Suggs franchise number is 8.5mil. So whatever contract he gets, Ware should get something start at that number.

Well first, Ware is better than Suggs. I don't think there's any doubt about that.

And Ware will make whatever the best passrushers and overall defensive players make -- DE or OLB makes no difference. We just haven't seen a huge number for a LB yet because the 34 has only recently become prominent again.

I mean, Allen got 7/73/31 and he's a huge off-field risk. If not for the repeated DWIs, I'm sure the Chiefs never would have let him go.

well i'm sure Hamlin could go to Atl or somewhere and get a contract like the one wilson got or he could take less and be on a contender

If I am Hamlin I take the money. Teams turn around quickly in the NFL these days and this is really his last chance for a longterm big pay day. The notion of playing for a contender is really for vets at the end of their career.

My overall point is I doubt he'll be asking for A-Rod money, which if you're reading the forum, tht's the kinda paranoia I see.

I wouldn't be mad if he gets Allen or Freeney money. Regardless of whether Ware is better than Suggs, I think that's where the watermark for his numbers will start. Will they finish there? Who knows.
