Signing a Free Agent Starting Receiver Will Free Up the Draft

My suggested strategy at this point is to sign a healthy #2 WR as a free agent, to spare us the need to draft one in rounds 1 and 2, whose slots must be used to draft a bell cow RB and a strong DT who can dominate at the point of attack. If targeting a RB in 2nd round, then trade down in 1st round and pick up an extra 3 and draft the best DT not from Michigan (Mason Graham will be long gone).

If Willie Hernandez a free agent guard wants to play in the big D, sign him, so that the two #3's can be used for a LB and a CB.

The free agent who makes the most sense and will be an immediate impact is MLB Nick Bolton of KC. The Boys need to open up their pocket books and get creative, as the fans are severely restless and have lost their confidence in the Cowboys' abilities in putting together a team to challenge for the big cup.

They likely roll with Mingo as WR2.

He was a starter in Carolina.

It depends. If we are there at 12 and McMillian is the best receiver and best player on the board? You take him. This team does not need to get cute.

Problem is the class of WR free agents are just not that great/at the end of their career. It looks like we will need to find our top two offensive needs (WR & RB) in the draft. We need to be creative and hit correctly in FA & rest of draft to fill those other needs at DL & corner

I think the Cowboys are going to wait until Cooper Kupp is released. Then attempt to out bid teams for his services.

Signing a free agent starting receiver, that is not a huge name, will not make Jerry one dollar more.

And making money is all he cares about.

Winning when it matters is secondary.

If a top talent WR falls to us in the first round they would still probably draft them regardless of what happens in FA.

A lot of the FA WRs aren't all that. Locker Room Cancers, Often Injured, or just not that good. I watched most of the Bengals games and even Tee Higgins missed time due to injury only starting 9 games.

if that's the case, for us to sign a FA WR, and perhaps draft a RB in 2nd or 3rd, as this is a deep RB draft, I would rather trade up, depending on how draft unfolds and target Mason Graham. its about quality and not quantity. it may cost too much to move to top 5, but if things unfold, like 2 QBs taken early and somebody taking a LT, as there is a big drop off in LTs from the top 2, then Mason may drop to 8,9th spot which would make it easier for us to trade up....

So youre saying that signing starters at WR, MLB and OG will “open up the draft”

No way
This is a totally new idea that absolutely no one has thought of before

I'd be afraid of rolling with Mingo as a 3rd WR, let alone a 2. I just don't see him as a productive player
He has the physical tools to do so, but he needs a tonnnnn of work to be that wr3. It would be absolutely foolish for the Cowboys to pencil him into any sort of starting capacity going into camp. I think he is closer to not making the team than he is WR2.

I understand your point but the conventional wisdom is to buy a top tier RB for 8 million a year and DRAFT a top tier WR because they go for 20 million per year for a #2 receiver..

I'm just basing this on nfl pricing however getting the right #2 receiver at a workable price would be great but please no more Brandin Cooks types that are past their prime
