I would even say they didn't pay the market rate because it's essentially a three-year deal with a heck of a bargain at the end if Dez is still healthy.
Dez will likely hold out in Year 4, and depending on the status of the team at that time and his health, the Cowboys will have the choice of renegotiating with him or flipping his rights into draft picks.
I believe that part of Jerry focus on meeting with Roc Nation at their place was to both get to know them and what type of advise they would be giving Dez. I think Jerry told them and Condon that if Dez signs the contract they expect him to fulfill it and they won't be tolerant of future hold-outs. Jerry did appear to be concerned about Dez spending all of the money early on. They deferred 7M of his signing bonus which the Cowboys rarely ever do. That's normally done by teams that are cash strapped. I think the Cowboys did it to prevent him from getting it all up front and thereby spending it all.
I think it's fixed now. It posted strange.
Yep. Apparently, Dez was taking loans out in recent months against his future earnings. Jerry doesn't want to be sitting there two summers from now with a broke receiver up to his eyeballs in debt. Hopefully, ROC Nation is in control of his money in some manner because Dez and his hangers-on are going through his cash like cotton candy.
I hope this story about the Bugatti on order isn't true. There's no need for a $2 million automobile.
He needs to just chill out, play football, and save as much as he can.
Jerry said "Dez will listen to Jay-Z, really listen" which I took to mean in regards to things like saving money and not buying he most expensive possible car and in terms of other things to prevent him from getting into trouble. I also took it to mean that Dez won't listen to most people that try to give him good advice.
I took it that way, too. I think the "Life of Dez" is probably more bizarre than we know, and something they keep under wraps as best they can. He's a good kid with a really stilted understanding of things and a support group of terrible influences around him. I can't imagine what his life has been.
Hopefully, they'll provide the direction, even moreso, than what David Wells did. That was an obvious concern of Jerry and Stephen's.
I watched the 1st episode the the HBO series Ballers last night. One guy had called his agent to get a loan because he had spent all of his rookie contract. It made me think of the Dez situation.
The Rock's character loaned the guy 300K in and attempt to get him as a client in his new career as a financial adviser to athletes.
The funny thing is that the fictional DAL franchise has a GM negotiating the deals. No Jerry cameos.
And the DT thinks he is getting a 6/101m deal with DAL.

Wow. Bad thread.
I've only seen episode #1. I don't recall the depiction of the Dallas GM in that episode, but maybe I missed it. It is the type of show that would make sense to have cameos and Jerry would be a good one.
I did watch 5 minutes of Sharknado 3 where Mark Cuban got to do some acting. My GF loves those movies but 5 minutes is about all I could manage.
I'm digging that show so far. The similarities between the DT and his hanger ons is actually how I imagine Dez's situation.
Did you author this? Some good writing in there.I think it's fixed now. It posted strange.
It's in later episodes if you ever make it that far
