Why are the cowboys making trades and signing free agents based on their draft grades. We traded for Mingo based on his draft grade and are notorious for signing first round busts. Do we not have a sperate NFL scouting team or is it just a marketing ploy to hype up bargain bin signings and sell it to fans as unrealized potential.

Because in their minds. They are the best drafting team in the NFL so if they had a first round grade on someone who didn’t pan out, it must be the team that drafted him that isn’t maximizing his potential. Because it can’t be they had him graded wrong.

They are just trying to find cheap talent. Honestly its not a bad idea. Even if you bat 3 of 10, you aren't risking much. We got some milage out of guys like Hooker, McClain and Jonathan Cooper

Honestly I don’t mind the strategy. Buy a talented player who hasn’t put it together on the cheap. The issue is you kind of need some proven guys to bring in as well so half your roster isnt blind dart throws.
You also need a coaching staff with a history of getting the best out of their players.

look at Baun and Becton.

Great d coordinator got the best out of him, and the best OL coach in the NFL made becton look like who he was drafted to be.

That doesn’t exist in Dallas.

100 percent it works sometimes but why restructure Dak if this was the strategy? That’s just really poor cap management.

Honestly, I think Will McClay is starting to head everything up as Jerry and Stephen get older/more worthless... and he might really just keep his draft grades/profiles for players and looks to add them based on his value. IDK.

I don't know. Maybe they'll spend it. Free Agency is only 30 hours old so we dont really know for sure what end up with. They had close to 60 million in space and are likely letting 30% of the team walk.

If they are signing guys like this on day two do you expect them to do more as time goes on and less high caliber players are left.

Might hit the lottery

No evaluation required
