Signs are that Parcells will be staying

In his press conference today Parcells indicated that he sat down with Jeff Ireland yesterday and talked about the college players coming up (specifically about several undersized DE's coming up), and that he has these talks with Ireland throughout the year.

Many in the media speculate that this is Parcells' last year as Dallas' coach; but if it is, then why is he putting so much stock into next year's crop of players? The fact that he is doing this is indication that he's stayind past this season as our coach. This is finally becoming the team he has built - a relatively young team that is still maturing - and this is further reason that he may see this team through, past this season, to full maturity.

Or...it could mean that he's just doing the job that a good coach does...finding players and leaving a foundation for a good team when he does eventually leave.

Just because he's evaluating next years draft doesn't mean that he's staying, it only means that he's looking out for the team that he has so far put together...

I hope he stays...but, he's not some spring chicken anymore. But, he has turned this team in the right direction for the long term...

Please -- Parcells will be drooling over undersized college DEs until the day he dies. This means nothing.

I don't always like BPs coaching style. Infact, I downright disagree with his approach.

I would love for him to stay on in some matter as a consultant for the draft. He can go take a crap every year when the second round starts though.

why do we need more undersized DEs? We had to cut a couple of pretty decent LBs already...who have gone on to be quality contributors in NO....

we need to be looking at WRs, OLs, and QBs...

I think the best indication is his weekly demeanor. He's having a good time of late. The more success this team and his hand picked players have, the more likely he will be to stick around, IMO.

Many seem to think that he'll retire if the Cowboys somehow win the Superbowl. That's not how I see it at all. The more success, the more likely he'll be in Dallas in 2007.

No, we need to be looking at players at every position. the average NFL career is so short that you can never stand pat at any position

I know it was only a litte bitty quote and shouldnt make too much of it, but I was a bit bummed out as well when he mentioned looking at a position we are stocked at (Ellis is older but Carpenter and Burnett are top picks) I would have loved to hear something about o-line prospects.
Although with his luck while picking them for us......maybe thats a good thing.:D

I'll never have a problem with getting better at rushing the passer.

And since when does Parcells reveal his true thinking on player acquisition (draft or FA) in the press?

If we're going to leave Carpenter inside, then we'll at least need a backup to Ellis on the outside since Singleton will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Or it's possible we'll seek a true pass rusher to back up Ware and move Burnett to the strong side or inside. I'm not anywhere near comfortable with Burnett being able to consistently apply pressure if we lost Ware to injury, or for that matter with Singleton taking Ellis' spot because it would take away one of our pressure players.

What better way for Parcells to ensure his Cowboy coaching legacy but to depart while putting his player acquisition stamp on the team for several more years to come.

I agree! That is why I like the switch to the 3/4...!

Also, just because Parcells is looking at defensive players does not mean he's not looking at the offense players also. It takes just a few more young players to make a big foundation for this team...

Now, what about Rome?

Actually, Shanle and Fujita are in Orleans. And, Fujita had a pretty damn solid night last night. Though, I don't believe Fujita was cut. He wastraded for a conditional draft pick.If Fuji's numbers and starts stay where he is at, we may be looking at an additional 4th rounder this year, if memory serves correct.

Fujita was a free agent who chose the Saints. Shanle was traded to NO for a conditional fourth-round pick.

I can't believe that people are still spending time speculating on whether or not Parcells will be returning.

He has shown that he can change his mind on a dime.

The one thing we should know about Parcells is....don't try to figure him out.

i used the term "cut" generically....
we let Fujita walk because we didn't really need him. We probably could've had him back if we wanted him bad enough.
Shanle was going to get cut because we were so stocked at LB and his upside was limited...so we traded him.
Guess I should've said "got rid of" or "let go"....
