I originally thought that Cassel could be a suitable backup, give him a year etc.... but after viewing these past few weeks....guy just cant play anymore...at least we know we need a vet backup and rookie for next year!! onto the next issue, and so on...

Someone is deep down the rabbit hole looking for positives.

That's never a positive. That's rooting for and/or applauding failure. If anything, it would be huge for the Cowboys if Cassel had proved he could be a good backup. That's a silver lining. All his play proves is that we need to once again go aggressively after a back-up (not just a rookie) for Romo.

Part of the problem is, by CBA rules, he has hardly been able to practice with the team. And because of those rules, Kellen Moore hasn't taken a practice snap.

But I agree, he's not that impressive.

Which means the Dallas FO and offensive coaching staff has also been exposed for thinking they had a serviceable back up QB. The sad part is they keep trying to cram Cassel into their system and evidently it does not apply. So they take the Ostrich approach burying their heads in the sand since they can't admit they screwed up.

Cassell is on a one-year deal anyway. The collection of QB's that will be available after this season will be interesting. Granted there probably won't be any guy there I would want starting for a full season, but in a short-term situation– yeah.

He was exposed this preseason when he lost his job to some guy named Tyrod Taylor in Buffalo.

The only thing Cassel playing horribly exposed is how JG has absolutely no idea how to run an offense and he was willing to scapegoat a guy - Weeden - to try to absolve himself and his staff of any blame.

I think the op is trying to say surely jerry has seen enough of cassel to NOT think we can coach him up

My biggest problem with Cassel is he has been regressing since he got here. He was suppose to get better according to Jerry with more exposure to the offense. He looks worse now then he did the first game with 3 picks.

Part of that stellar coaching!

Anyone that comes here as a backup will probably get exposed.

Cassell is a solid player and anyone who has watched him play before he got Jason Garretted knows that.

He's won 35 NFL games.

I look at it from the other side. Last year when Weeden came in for a game and a half he (somehow) did enough to convince Jerruh he would be a suitable backup once again. If he had been given 7 or however many games that Cassell has gotten he too would have been exposed, and maybe we wouldn't even be in this position. There's no mistake to be made with Cassell, there should be no belief that they can walk into next season with this guy as the primary backup, now they can get serious about acquiring a legitimate backup QB.

Maybe NFL Network will replay the game so you can watch it. He looked like he was throwing giant water balloons yesterday.

Even for Cassel, he was weird. He looked like Jonathan Papelbon out there, aiming rising fastballs with a slow delivery. He would've never even made it to the NFL if his release was always that slow coupled with never looking anyone off.
