is Dallas might have two high first round draft picks next year. Its way to early to throw in the towel...but it does not look good when Aaron Glenn and Reeves will determine if Dallas runs the 3-4 or cover-2. The only thing to get us thru this is that Dallas might be in position next draft to take top CB and top RB.

Why in the world are we panicking now?

Look at San Diego's secondary-it is pooh-pooh(even sans Newman, we're better than their's)-and they still managed a top 10 D.

You can run a cover 2 and play a 3-4 at the same time. :bang2:

"If Newman doesn't play, it's a concern," Phillips said.

Making matters worse, the Cowboys have no confidence in anyone on the roster being a capable replacement. Aaron Glenn, Jacques Reeves, Joey Thomas and Alan Ball had opportunities to make an impression in Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans but didn't.

"None of them stepped up as far as somebody to come in and play if he were out," Phillips said. "That's what we're looking for and we didn't see that."

If memory serves, our sorry kicking game costed us the NFCE Title in '05, not injuries to Flo, Al Singleton, Julius, etc, etc through the course of the season.

Dude-it's not like Wade is going to dance on the rooftops when anyone gets injured.

Good greif..... throw in the towel.... Why don't you do that. Put your jersey in the closet, box up the mugs, cancel your subscription to Sunday ticket, send me your budget for nachos and whatever you drink, and don't watch football this coming season. The draft will roll around in April and we can use one of those draft picks on a corner.

Wade didn't have a "Newman" in SD and look what he accomplished!!

Chill out brotha... everything will be ok! ;) :D

Dallas doesn't have the front 7 that San Diego had....thats why SD got by with those corners. Dallas defense is different than San Diego - Dallas strength was in their DB and Ware. San Diego strength was all up front. Dallas has two guys who can rush the passer (Ware and James) - San Diego had about 5.

Agreed.

But San Diego was probably the best team besides NE and Baltimore at controlling the line of scrimmage and getting to the qb. Up to this point we don't have that at all besides Ferguson and Demarcus Ware. Until the rest of the starters not named Ferguson and Ware can actually contribute by getting to the qb we will need Terrence Newman. All I've seen is players have poo-poo instincts and getting late to the ball and the qb if much.

I think it's obvious that SD has a much better front 3 and possibly lb core than we do now. Put T-new as the no 1 cb in San Deigo and that defense does even better and Newman is a probowler. Take Newman out of our secondary and we get **** on for the season be the opposing passing game.

Yea, James, he of the 2 1/2 career sacks, sure is a pass rushing phenom.

:bang2:

Lol, I might agree that we have 2 good rushers, but James does not come to mind.

Because teams have dialed into our weak secondary since the midpoint of last year, teams who beat us do it by passing all over us, and that weakness is utterly exposed with the media attention surrounding Tnew's injury.

I'm already having visions of Matt Schaub-esque dominance. Good QB's are going to pass all over us as Schaub did last week.If we can't get pressure during the game, it'll be hard for us to win.

I think we're a 9-7 team without Tnew functioning at a Pro Bowl level.

Good Grief.

There is no silver lining in newman being hurt. He is going to play either way.

All this overreaction is crazy.

We still dont even know how this team is going to play and we wont until september 9th.

Throwing in the towel in august is about as bad as I have seen on here recently.

What if Romo and that O-Line picks up where it left off last Dec?

Yep-you're right. We could clone Newman 5 X's out there, and we will still be 9-7.

Honestly, I think San Diego's secondary is light years better than Dallas' without TNew. If you look at it from a non-homer viewpoint.

Jammer (6-0 204lbs.) would start in Dallas over Henry. Drayton Florence would push Henry as well, he has good size and speed at 6-0 195lbs. Cromartie (6-3 207lbs.) has all the physical gifts in the world and if on our roster would be pushing Henry as well.

If their first three corners could possibly start in Dallas opposite TNew, that would mean that their first three corners are better than Glenn, Reeves, Jones, etc.

Safety is where Dallas has its advantage. Roy Williams is better than any safety on their roster. Hamlin and Marlon McCree are a push in my viewpoint. Both are solid players but not gamebreakers although just looking at stats McCree seems to be around the ball more. Clinton Hart at strong safety is a player that would not start in Dallas and may lose his job in San Diego to E. Weddle, the 2nd round safety some on this board liked.

Without Newman, the Chargers CB's are head and shoulders better than what the 'Boys can trott out in a Nickel or Dime. In my opinion, even with TNew in there, the Chargers Nickel CB is better than Aaron Glenn. No knock on Glenn but the reality is he is 35yrs old and has been beaten several times in the last couple seasons.
