Simply need to run the ball more?

These are Murray's numbers since his return

51 attempts
269 yards
5.3 yards per carry
4 touchdowns

The problem though is simply 51 attempts over the course of 4 games. 12.75 carries per game? Definitely needs to be a lot more than that.

Perhaps that was the thinking in picking up a fullback. Perhaps try to help our short yardage conversion at the very least.

We've got to do something to open up this offense and I just haven't seen it yet. Can't describe how disappointed I am in Miles Austin. Still hoping he can turn things around for this year at least.

We're going to need that offense to start firing on all cylinders over the next 4 games, and if we want to have any chance in the playoffs.

I don't really care if Miles turns it on or not, just need him to stay on the field. His presence helps take away extra pressure on Dez and Witten.

The new FB will prob only be seen in short yardage situations but that is fine with me. I hope the coaches make more of an effort to pound the ball but your guess is as good as mine if they will stick with it or not.

Murray should get more than 12.75 carries Monday night, I am guessing around 20 due to the weather. The FB might get a few down near the goal-line especially.

Whatever happens from here on out, added injuries can not be a part of it. This team will win the division as it stands now as long as there aren't any new injuries. We are getting some bodies back and they need to stay there. Luckily, we should not need too much of an offense until week 17. Chi will be low scoring, GB is horrid right now and Wash has all but given up, but they might be fired up to play spoiler.

These last four games will tell me if this team is ready for the playoffs or not and the run game will be an important part of this stretch.

It's a passing league now. I'd like to see Murray get 15 carries per game, if its effective. If not, throw it even more. Whatever is working. We gotta stick with what were good at, which is not running the football. It's slinging it around with romo.

I agree the offense needs to step up. If we're going to do anything in the playoffs, it's going to be because the offense steps up.

Our running backs can't stay healthy even as little as we are using them. What are we getting 35 carries per injury? And as TrailBlazer aptly said...it's a passing league now.

Even if we could sustain 5 yards per carry (we definitely couldn't) that's still not as much as what we get yards-per-pass.

This is the time you utilize Murray the most, December is running the rock time!

People want to call it a passing league, but the reality is that isn't working out for us.

We're 31st in the league in rushing attempts, and while he is healthy Murray is 4th in the league in rushing yards per attempt... #1 among running backs...

It's no coincidence that Dallas's lack of a running game coincides with mediocracy. This is the NFL. To win you have to run the ball effectively and stop the oppositions running game. It's football 101. This nonsense about it being a passing league is said by those who play Madden. It's nonsense.

It's not a passing league. That's nonsense. And don't show me any stats because that's nonsense also. If you've ever played the game, then you know that whomever wins the battle in the trenches wins consistently. From the NFL down to Pop Warner.

Our problems are with defending the pass. Not with our rushing offense. Not worried about Murray's carries, one way or the other.

It's hard to win when you can't stop any good QB and if they get to the playoffs, there's no avoiding them.

If there was ever a game that we could win simply by running the ball - this one is it. Chicago is dead last in run defense giving up over 153 yards per game. They are absolutely DREADFUL.

5-0 when our defense holds opposing QB under a 90 rating, 2-5 when it doesn't.

3-2 when we have over 60 yards rushing through 3 quarters, 4-3 when we don't.

Battle of the trenches is important...but it's the pass rush part of that battle that is truly relevant. You can be dominant winning the running battle in the trenches and get your *** whupped if you fail at the pass rush part. And you can suck at the running aspect in the trenches, but still destroy a team if you win the passing battle. You can call the stats nonsense, but that's just ignoring facts.

Pass rush is important like the passing game is important but running the ball and stopping the run is what wins football games consistently.

Shouldn't you look at the total numbers by the RBs, not just Murray. The combined RB numbers in the Raiders game were very impressive.

My point was that when Murray is out there and healthy, we need to be using him.

So then why aren't the Vikings Superbowl contenders every year?

You can't win with just a running game in the nfl, but if you don't have a defense and only have a passing game... you're in for a rough ride trying to get to and win the super bowl.
