One of my fondest moments from earlier in the decade was Quincy hitting Bryant in the back of the end zone to beat Carolina. I really thought then we might have a connection to build on.
I'll also always remember Stoerner's start against the Giants. He had a hot first half, fizzled badly in the second half and then in came Ryan Leaf for a would-be game-winning drive of like 80 yards. Aikman was going crazy in the booth about how unfair it was to put Leaf in a bad spot like that, then he fired a laser on like his first pass for a huge chunk of yards. I'll admit I let my imagination get the best of me at that moment. I don't think he completed another pass that drive.
I also thought it was cool seeing Alvin Harper return the year Irvin went down. I was a teenager at the time and desperately hoped there was a chance Irvin could return and that we could see the Irvin-Harper duo return, even if Harper could barely play at that stage. I believe Harper had one reception that year, though it might have come back because of a penalty.
Hearing Boomer Esiason (I think it was him?) of all people break the news about Parcells possibly coming here one Sunday morning stands out, too. One of the stranger days I had as a fan. I think there were two games left in the season, and I thought I heard the TV wrong at the time. My family was out of the house -- I swear I thought I was going crazy. I still recall the Tuna signs that instantly filled Texas Stadium in Campo's final game as head coach.
Lastly, I'll always have some variation -- even if not verbatim -- of the sideline reporter saying "They're putting in Romo" to start the second half of the Giants game. Again, being a homer, I fully expected him to come in, easily lead us to victory and for a star to be born. He was then picked off by a defensive lineman on his first pass. Stardom would eventually come, at least.
