Godfrey is a 4-3 LB and all that he could really do is take up a roster spot.

Godfrey has expressed a desire to a) continue to play for Wade Phillips (as he's been doing the past few years) and b) return to Dallas.

see what BP has done to Cowboy fans.... now everyone and their brother expects the Boys to sign the Rocky Boimans of the world!

Boiman was a good signing -- he's a decent player. He simply lost his roster spot b/c he broke his arm and couldn't contribute in training camp.

The Colts are letting half their LBs go. HE'LL Probably resign with them, have 90 tkls and win another SB:D

I think the Colts claimed him on waivers so he's Colt property for another few years

Damn DC.com still has him listed:eek:: Wonder who our snapper will be? I sure long for the helle days.

Ladoucuer will continue to be the deep snapper. I thought he was a little inconsistent in 2005, but he was solid in 2006.

I'd be thrilled to land Anthony Spencer in the draft for OLB opposite Ware. Very productive and a great motor translates well into the NFL.

In the mid-rounds (4th maybe, 5th), I like Zak DeOssie for an inside backer. Awesome motor, nasty and the son of former Cowboy great Steve DeOssie.

I'd also look at Brian Robinson from UT as an OLB in the mid-rounds if we don't take Spencer. I hesitate to recommend a UT guy because of the homers here, but he could be an interesting OLB prospect given his tenacity and motor.

On the outside they currently have:

Ware
Ellis
Carpenter
Burnett
Glymph

With Fowler likely to leave and Hoyte at FB ... inside they currently have:

Ayodele
James
?

They could draft a FB and move Hoyte back to the inside. Possibly sign Godfrey ... or even look to draft a top notch prospect like Patrick Willis, or look for someone in the later rounds.

I like Spencer.

Steve DeOssie a former great Cowboy? I remember him, but not him being great. He was a good player. I don't know anything about his son. I saw someone mentioned his name the other day and my first thought was if he was Steve's son.

Robison would be a good 2nd day pick up if they have not addressed the linebacker positions on the first day.

fowler may not be gone, we shall see
al is gone from the outside
we can get backups later in the draft
no way we take a lb in the top 2 rounds

Without regards to the actual issue regarding whether Steve DeOssie was good or not, I will let you know that I called him that due to a habit I picked up from listing to "The Ticket" sports radio station here in Dallas. Whenever they discuss a former player of a local team, they always call the person "former Cowboys/Mav/Ranger great ____." It is something that wore off on me. So even if the guy is spare, I always call them that.

E.g.: "Hey, I saw former Cowboy great Mike Saxon at the grocery store this weekend."

So much talk about Carpenter playing the inside when he is clearly best suited for the outside...

I like Zack DeOssie a lot. I think he's exactly what we probably need to bring in. People who think DeOssie is not athletic are going to be very surprised IMO. I think DeOssie is a very nice mix of intelligance and athleticisam. This is not Steve DeOssie here. Zak DeOssie is a 4.5 type LB with 4.2 SS speed. I also like Robison. He is a guy who will probably turn out to be a heck of a 34 LB. If he last till the 4th round, I would be very happy with him. May not though. From what I understand, the Pats like him very much as well.

Fowler is gone -- there is no way we give him 10 mill over 4years.

I wouldn't be surprised if we took an LB in round 1 or 2 provided that someone fell.

Burnett is a guy who I think is going to play inside now.

I really do NOT see us taking a ILB in rd one- mainly because there really are not any worth it. 2nd rd maybe, more likely 3rd or 4th rd. Now if we go after a pass rushing tweener that is the only way I see us going high for any kind of a LB.

I agree with the poster who suggested drafting a real FB and moving Hoyte back to defense. He can be the same back-up run-stopping, good special teams performer that Fowler was.

Plus a real FB might be able to catch and run the ball better than Hoyte -- though his blocking was often quite good.

Assuming we don't re-sign Singleton and Ellis isn't at 100%, that's five LBs (Carp, Ayodele, Burnett, James, and Ware) for four positions.

That's thin.

Ellis should get cut, that makes us even thinner

Why would they cut Ellis? He may end up on the PUP, which still leaves them thin at LB and pass rushers, but he won't and should not be cut.

Saw that. Sounds fine if they both start playing better than Ellis. I hope they do. They didn't last year. Ellis was better than those young pups last season, but they can get better. Even if they play better, I still would not cut Ellis. There is nothing wrong with quality depth. A healthy Ellis can play OLB and DE in the 3-4 and DE and DT in the nickle. He can contribute and the Cowboys have shown they don't have an over abundance of quality front 7 guys.
