Singing Big Mike’s praises

With several vocal posters around here, there are only two categories:

1) The best ever.
2) The worst ever.

If you don’t fall in the first category, you fall in the second by default. Their reasoning makes it difficult to process people like Mike McCarthy. He’s not in the Belichick/Reid tier. But he’s a good coach with a Super Bowl resume. I’m glad he’s doing well despite current injuries. Scapegoating him for the sake of courting Sean Payton would’ve been crappy.

Hell no...he is a lazy boob, who will once again go winless in the post season. If we are lucky enough to get a wildcard birth. Maybe I was wrong when I said that the majority of the posters on this site....unlike the idiots in Frisco attending First Fake....were actually realists. Some of you look to have been conned after only FOUR games....are you nutz???
Somebody needs a glass of warm milk and go to bed.

So, you don't like Noah Brown, Mike McCarthy, and our team?

There is zero chance Garrett would have this team at 3-1. 2015 gave you a good look at what Garrett was capable of when his starter got hurt. A bad 4-12 year. The offense was terrible. Big Mike gets ripped on a lot here but really he has done an excellent job this season. All 3 phases are working. Offensive game plan has been smart. Good clock management. Team is playing physical and smart. Really it’s been a very solid effort by the coaching staff. Those of you that want him gone so they can hire Payton need to compare the historical records. Payton would not be an upgrade. Big Mike has done a good job here.

Has he converted any of you? If not why?
I have been extremely disappointed he has not installed his offense and been more involved in the offense.
Isn't this his Forte?
Anyone know why this is?

While it's probably Moore, Quinn, and Bones doing the adjusting, MM has to okay it and trust his coaches.
kellen moore was here under garrett...and we never saw og's being used as full-backs.
cedrick wilson and tony pollard weren't used much at all under garrett/moore.
same for noah brown.
the first year under mccarthy...pollard,schultz,brown and wilson all looked better and flourished once mccarthy arrived.
dan quinn deserves all the credit but lets not forget when mccarthy had his introductory presser and when asked about what type of defense he wanted he said multiple.
under mccarthy...we started addressing the dt and s spots with much more frequency than when garrett was hc.
garrett was here when we drafted donovan wilson so credit there...but things just look different since mccarthy got here.
i dont think garrett would have shifted zack martin to ot...an in game decision i credit mccarthy for.
he started terrence steele...as an udfa...because he said "he earned it".
i don't think garrett would've done that.
and that decision has helped steele incredibly in his development.
i'm seeing young players get better...some did under garrett...but it seems like many more are since mccarthy got here.

Explain your work please.
3-1 with a back-up QB and injuries to starters along the o-line doesn't happen on it's own.
that's coaching.
developing players.
preparing players.
mccarthy is the reason this team is playing well despite the set backs.
because thats been a recurring theme since his first year.
NOTHING has gone right.
yet this team continues to bust their ***.
THAT doesn't happen on its own.
THAT is coaching.

13 games left. I'll hold on to the annointment oils.

MM won a super bowl because the NFL allowed his packers to hold. Teams complained about it for years yet the league did nothing. Aaron Rodgers had all day to throw. Finally other teams began using the "hug" technique and league put a stop to it.

MMs last 2 years in GB Aaron was running for his life the pack was horrific.
MM and Philbin were run out of town.

Lafleur took over and the Packers instantly became competitive again.

Mike sold Jerry his analytics bull. Jerry gave him a shot as analytics was all the rage at the time.

Mike brought his 2 best buddies Nolan and Philbin in and look at the result. Nolan was fired (not soon enough)
MM wanted Simmons (another GB guy) to replace him BUT SOMEHOW ended up hiring Quinn. (Jerry)
Quinn is the sole reason for this teams resurgence and if we lose him we're screwed. The enthusiasm he brought to the defense is spreading to the whole team.
MM can continue standing on the sidelines with his arms crossed blowing time management like he did at the end of the Giants game.
So yea, well done Mike.

I slammed MM when he deserved it and I couldn't wait for Sean Payton to walk through the door after the 49 playoff game.

Now, I'm giving all that a pause.

The 2022 version of Mike McCarthy is better than any version of Jason Garrett that has ever performed for the Cowboys.

Any of those fans, who would prefer to claim otherwise, need only to note the results that he's achieved thus far for them.

The current performances of this team, despite the large number of injuries they've had justifies his being duly respected.

True but so far so good. By the way where did I anoint him? I said he gets dumped on a lot but doesn’t deserve that. You can live by hyperbole though.

Anyone know why this is?

cause the owner is a fool? Who hires an offensive minded coach with a Super Bowl and a legit resume, and hands the keys to a guy with no experience?

In response to your first points, all those guys were still undeveloped while JG was here. It's only natural for players to earn playing time as they get better.
Still, Garrett did seem to be more about tenure and draft position than actual talent. That said, the coaches probably suggested which players should be given a chance, and JG refused, where MM agreed.

I don't know how much of the new philosophy is Mike's idea, and how much is simply his willingness to listen to the guys under him, but it doesn't matter to me. As long as positive results come from it, he's alright by me.

The best thing McCarthy does is delegate to his assistant coaches and how he lets them do their thing. the second best thing is his communication with his players and how he gets them to play hard. I haven’t yet figured out what the third best thing he does yet.
