Singleton's loss hurts?

our OLBs are struggling to contain the run, I haven't caught every Cowboy game, so I don't know if it's been a season-long problem, or did it just start after Singleton went down?

Singleton wasn't a tower of strength in the 3-4 but there is a reason he started and there is a reason Fujita was cut by KC. We are playing well with the holes we have and the rookies we are forced to start including Ware.

The coaches deserve some love as well as the multiple solid veterans who are keeping this mess not only afloat but playing at a high level.

Dallas is ranked #5 in overall defense and #6 in points allowed per game. Philly is the only team that really gashed us on the ground.

And I would take Singleton at strongside LB over Fujita any day based on what I've seen thus far.

I don't think Singleton is all that great, but I'll take him any day over Fujita. Fujita has struggled since becoming a starter. He really does a poor job of tackling in the open field and his coverage skills aren't particularly good. I am also surprised how out of favor Dat must be to have Fowler be a starter yesterday over him. Unless, Dat's neck injury is still bothering him, I can't believe Parcells would prefer Fowler over him. It's also disappointing that Burnett has contributed so little this year because with our LB's, he should have been able to crack the starting line-up at some point. Well, hopefully, his 2nd year will go a lot better than his rookie year.

Kilyin, I know our D has been pretty stout against the run, but our OLBs are having a hard time in that department, just wondering if it's been season-long, or has it just happened with Singleton out of the lineup?

and man, the 360 emotion swing on Fujita

I guess SMALL Al was better than what some iconoclast stated.

Fujita has not played well. And he is getting noticed. Which means he is either playing well or poorly. At least with Singleton, no news was good news.

There is a mindset that great plays equals value as a player. It's badly flawed because there is such a thing as a player doing his assignment and not being in on the play. Singleton did not blow assignments. Telling that to a couple of people is impossible.

Als does nothing.

We give up 7 points against Detroit
We give up 17 defensive points against Denver

Fujita was taking 1/2 Als's reps all season.

Move on - there is no story there.

Long term we are a better team - Last years 4-3 LB's are for all intent and purposes buried.

Parcells stamp is being put on HIS Linebackers!

Singleton, Dat, Shanle were all out against the broncos. Losing one starting LB wouldn't be as bad as three.

I agree with Nors. No way does Fujita playing over Singleton have a significant influence on how our defense plays. He has made a couple of bad plays, but i dont think hes been that terrible.

Shanle's loss in pass coverage was noticed. Dayne ran through the line where Fowler should have been. I'm not sure who was on the field that play.

We need Shanle back in there.

the defense was actually better Thursday vs Denver WITHOUT Shanle than it had been with him...the Broncos made two or three good plays on us, and they are a FAR better team than Philly or Detroit

I actually thought Fowler played pretty well...we certainly didnt lose the game because he played and Shanle didnt

Fowler did a good job and why Parcells started him. Shanle when 100% will start over Fowler against Giants.

Nors,

You are wrong. Parcells wouldn't agree with you that Singleton "does nothing".

We will eventually bring in, (through the draft, FA or trades), better, bigger and more physical LBers for this Defense. But for now and what we have to play with, we definitely miss Al Singleton. End of story!

Coach Parcells was visably concerned after Singleton's injury.

So, was he faking because he was secretly smiling inside because he got to put his BIG linebackers in the game? Spare us the fairy tales.

We need to go out and draft another class of Ware, Spears, Canty, Burnett, Petitti
Go draft a stud OLB to put opposite Ware.

Our defense kept Detroit in check and held Denver to a respectable 17 points in OT. In the long run this was the best thing for the team. It was inevitable that Coakley, Dat , Als were going to not cut it in 3-4.

I don't think many people see Singleton, Nguyen etc. as long term solutions in the alignment and many would agree that we do need another threat opposite Ware to take the pressure off him. So why do you try to state the obvious in a pathetic display of self-promotion? You are not revealing anything earth shattering or even that interesting.

The idea is that you appear to try to feed everyone this nonsense about Singleton being worthless, first he was going to be cut, then lose his job and fact is you were WRONG.

If Singleton is so worthless why did he start every game? Every player on the front seven is being rotated so saying Fujita was taking plays away from him is patently false. Until someone can explain why Parcells started a useless player you've got no evidence.

Want to correct a couple of above points:
1. KC did not cut Fujita. Parcells saw film on him & tried to get KC's Vermeil to trade him to us. Vermeil finally agreed when Fujita asked to be traded to 3-4 team and besides KC drafted LB Derrick Johnson in first round. Also Fujita came to Cowboys just week before season started & had to learn 3-4 defense on the run--with lot of Singleton help.
2. Dat is still not in top shape & frankly unable to play at previous level til fully recovered. Parcells trying to keep him available (and somewhat healthy) for use by limiting him to pass coverage which Dat is better at.
3. Ware has hit rookie wall & doing his best while still learning. Shanle unable to play against Broncos cause he dinged up, which left us with Ware, Fowler, James & Fujita with as much help as Dat & Burnett can provide.
4. In offseason we must pick up a good OLB who has played in 3-4.
