SI's Andy Benoit thoughts on Cowboys FA

So SI's reporting (as well as other sports news sites) is dead...I mean, you work for SI, write a freaking article, even if a short 1/4 page or 1/2 page type thing...instead tweeting 5 different things....

The new generation doesn't read long articles. That's why the twitter blasts.

And if they go to the magazine, they're looking at more indepth pieces for the audience that likes that type of writing.

My question is where is the money in this

Pretty much!

And Green will make us the best OL in the whole damn league!!!

I disagree with him on Leary. Leary is pretty darn good in pass protection. He anchors very well and switches off the stunts well and is quick enough to cut off quicker interior D-Linemen and hold up the bigger D-Linemen.

He's a pretty decent run blocker. I agree, he's not anywhere near the athlete Collins is, but he's still a pretty decent athlete. Has some inconsistencies out in space and getting to the second level...but, he will look very good at times.

Collins I think is a superior run blocker. Forget about his ability to run, the guy is a violent mauler out there. I don't think he would be fun to play against even if you got the better of him on pass plays. He needs to work on stunt and blitz recognition along with hand placement in pass pro.

I think Leary is a solid pickup for the Broncos, although they spent a hefty sum to get him. I can see if they had some real problems at guard and think that is a missing piece why they would take him.

Carroll an improvement? Hard to believe as badly as Dez embarrassed him. Nolan is a JAG.

I agree. Leary is a solid player but he will no longer have the benefit of playing with two All-Pros. He will hold his own but he will not be the missing/saving piece to a subpar o-line. They will need to add more pieces for Leary to have an impact.

I remember a conversation among teammates about what offensive lineman you least wanted to get in a fight with in an alley.

The unanimous choice was Ron Leary.

They were being polite. Smith would be my worst nightmare.

In too many cases people use the term JAG when they are unable to understand the subtleties of the game

Agree with Benoit... Leary wasn't worth resigning for that amount of coin.

various:
Leary was far superior to Collins last year but is no where near the raw athlete Collins is.
Leary is stronger with better technique. Collins is quicker with better feet and high upside that projected to Tackle coming out.
All teams would choose Collins if having to choose.
But Leary is a really good OG and was a top 5 OG last year. Collns with same guys surrounding him had too many mental and technical gaffes.
Wilcox was a dumpster fire before last year but his benching woke him up and he wasn't out of position much last year.
Church was really good last year but all the safeties were solid as the scheme took heat off them with more zone and less man coverage or single high sets.
More nickel and dime looks so more speed/coverage on the field.
Jones easily the best athlete amongst those safeties but also the least heavy hitter.
Writers et al: Welcome to 2017. In this version of the world we no longer read magazines like SI and seldom even go to their website unless it's linked to social media.

Jags and 3 tech and edge rusher
Are all the "hot" terms now

I've grown to hate the term 'JAG.' One, because it sometimes gets confusing in context because of Jacksonville. Two, because people now use it to mean everything from 'quality starter I don't like' to 'overpaid starter who's actually pretty good, but did I mention he's overpaid' to actual JAGs.
