SI's Tony Pauline Senior Bowl Day 1 Report....

He's being graded late 1-2 now.

Davis went 11, Otah and Chrilus went 17-19.

I think he's just as good if not better than all of them.

I don't think "1-2" means "late first, early 2nd". I've always taken it to mean "probably first round, possibly 2nd", maybe I've been reading it wrong but that's how I usually take it.

Right now CBS Sports, which uses NFL Draft Scout data, only has 15 players with a "1st" tag next to their name, obviously there will be more than 15 picks in the 1st round.

Cam Jordan is dominating again today. If we can get either Cam Jordan or Carimi (both would be epic), I'd be happy.

They have him ranked 29th.

That's late 1.

He's better than that IMO.

Why are people drooling over 3 sack 3-4 DE's at 9?

Well I am not drooling over the 3-4 DE at 9. However that does not mean the cowboys are not.

If Jordan keeps having great practices, does well in the game and has a good combine, he might...might, wind up going before we pick.

Cam Jordan won't be considered a reach at #9 in April.

Maybe for a 4-3 team. For a 3-4 team, he probably would be.

That's what I'm hoping cuz I want nothing to do with any 3-4 DE at 9......

And that's coming from a guy who does nothing but pimp front 7 every draft.

The last 7 or so top 3-4 DE's:

Spears, Canty, Igor, Canty, Tyson, Dorsey, Luis, Hatcher.

They all suck at rushing the passer and it's basically not in their job descripition.

I don't draft a 2 down run stopper top 10 unless it's a mammoth NT.

There are no good pass rushing 3-4 DE's unless it's Justin Smith, Seymour, a HOF'er in Bruce Smith or the guys Wade had in Atlanta who were really 4-3 DE's. ATL couldn't wait to get out of the 3-4.

Amen!

You should have just responded to InmanRoshi. I think he is the only one wanting to draft him at #9 here. :muttley:

In all fairness, most of these guys were not top 3-4 DEs. Canty, Igor and Hatcher didn't even go in the first round. And before you say 3-4 DEs shouldn't, you have to also consider they just weren't that good. Luis Castillo also wasn't a top 3-4 DE, he went late in round 1 and produced a 7 sack season before injuries started to take a toll on him.

Glenn Dorsey was always considered a 4-3 DT, KC made the switch after his rookie year, so he doesn't belong in this conversation either.

You can knock both Spears and Tyson because they were top 3-4 DEs, but again I ask is it a knock on the position or these 2 guys (FWIW, Tyson Jackson was considered a huge reach at the time).

The truth is there just aren't that many guys who are considered elite 5 technique guys. Jared Oldrick was one guy last year, but he got hurt (wouldn't have mattered if he played in a 3-4 or 4-3), but some drafts lack those guys or, they get picked by 4-3 teams.

To take a 3-4 DE in the top 10, he had better be a Richard Seymour type 3-4 DE. Otherwise, you're probably wasting your pick's value.

I agree, Richard Seymour or even Ty Warren. I think Cam Jordan has the physical tools (slightly shorter) and the production to play at their level.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Cam Jordan and would love to have the Cowboys get him. Just not with the 9th overall pick. I don't think Cam Jordan has the explosiveness that made Seymour so damn good. Ratliff displays that same explosiveness. Which is why I think Ratliff would be even more dominate at DE than he is at center where he is always double teamed.

Tyson Alualu went higher than everyone thought.. Everyone laughed at the Jags... Well the Jags are laughing now.

Cam Jordan is pretty damn explosive dude. He's been literally unblockable...

A guard would have some extreme \conniption fits trying to block this dude.

Just imagine him, Rat, and Ware bringing crazy pressure from 3 different spots constantly.

FWIW, I don't want anyone with the 9th pick. I think someone will try to trade up for a QB or for Julio Jones. And even if Patrick Peterson was there, I'd trade down.

Gotta love Tongan and Samoan football players. Especially if they are steroid users. They beast the league! :laugh2:

No, i'm not declaring Tyson is a steroid user.

This ^^^^.... Alualu had a great year and Jordan is a much better player. I know it's not everything but it has to be something.

Don't be so sensitive.

All I'm saying is every week you've got a new favorite prospect that the Cowboys would fools to not draft.

You're wrong. You really can't name any 3-4 DE's that were more highly regarded coming out the last 5 years or so. Canty may have have been a 4 but only because of injuries. There was a lot of first round talk around his name. Then came the eye and knee injuries. NE supposedly wanted him and Hatcher.

It's not that these guys aren't any good. It's the position. Not many 300 pounders have the athleticism to rush the passer from the 3-4 DE position. And if they're a big college DE they don't have the technique to rush as a DT in nickel. Hence, they are 2 down run stoppers.
