Chris Canty-DL-Cowboys Feb. 23 - 8:19 pm et

The Commanders reportedly have "significant interest" in free agent DL Chris Canty.

Beat writer Jason La Canfora considers Canty a likelier signing than Albert Haynesworth. Canty (6'7/300) would play left end for the Skins. He'd be asked to occupy blockers on early downs and move to tackle in passing situations.

The extreme homers seem to think that they're going to get Canty on the cheap. :laugh2:

I hate the idea of keeping TO and losing Canty.
They're not equivalent players, but that's just a net loss of class for this team.

We all know that Canty is Solid, but You can hear the reaction of the Commander fans already if he signs there about how great he is and what a loss it is to the Cowboys no matter if they way overpay for him.

The skins were very interested in canty in the draft before dallas ended up snatching him before we could.

This might just be there chance to move in and get the guy they wanted before.

Skins interested in CantyMonday 2/23, 7:36 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that the Commanders have significant interest in free-agent defensive lineman Chris Canty.

Our View: GM Daniel Snyder had a meeting with Albert Haynesworth's agent last week, but the team feels that Canty is a far more cost-effective solution. However, Canty won't likely be had for a bargain. The 26-year-old has shown a lot of ability when healthy, and he figures to be one of the better pass-rushers on the market.

I read another article that said Minnie Me (Snider) had dinner with Haynesworth's agent at the combine. Maybe Minnie Me was having a hard time swallowing the $$ #'s that was being served and might be thinking he can digest a Canty meal/deal a little easier.

Then the pass rusher market must be very week, for a pass rusher Canty is not. He's great against the run, but just average as a pass rusher.

Or maybe he wants both to revamp their D Line.

There are a couple of teams that will be switching to the 3-4 this year. Which is why I think that Canty and his agent feel that they can get a very big contract. Someone is going to pay Canty alot of money.

Canty in a 4-3 as a DE would be laughable. For what he's asking, they can have him.

I hope not really. DC players/coaches have not had much success coming up to us. I have always figured a good conspiracy theory was due out on that.

That's alot of up front money. Plus they want to resign Hall:

Commanders Continue Pursuit of DeAngelo Hall
Jason Reid files this report:
The Commanders met with the agent for cornerback DeAngelo Hall, Joel Segal, Friday during the combine at Indianapolis and were expected to continue talking throughout the week, a league source said. A deal was not imminent after the initial meeting, but the Commanders remain interested.
Re-signing Hall is among the organization's top priorities. Owner Daniel Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations, would prefer to get a deal done before Hall is permitted to consider offers from other teams, beginning Friday when the free agent market opens.
We figure it would take something in the range of $15 million guaranteed to get it done. Considering how eager Snyder and Cerrato are to bring back Hall, he could get exactly what he wants. As always, stay tuned.

Snider has been cutting some dead weight:

Commanders cut linebacker Washington, save $4M

They still have Springs under contract with a heavy salary. Maybe if they can sign Hall, they can lose Springs and use his salary to help their D-line.

I don't want one of our homegrown boys playing for the dead skins, dang free agency :bang2: .

If Canty gets what he's asking for, I wouldn't have much of a problem with him leaving. Just way too much for what he's worth. He's a run defender and absolutely STUNK in the first half of the season. He played decent in the second half, but nowhere near what he's asking for.

And considering the Skins want him to play 4-3 DE, if he gets what he's asking for I would personally send him to DC myself giftwrapped if I was Jerry Jones.

I can see why the Skins would want Hall. He's young and has a lot of talent, although he's not all that good. But cutting Springs would just continue to work in our favor and I wouldn't mind Dallas taking a shot at giving Springs a 1 year deal to play safety

Since when did the Skins switch to the 3-4? If they want a 4-3 DE that tips the scales at 300+lbs and pay him $50 on top of that. I'm all for it. They will NEVER get a sack from the left end position! :laugh2:

10 sacks in 4 years is a better pass rusher? These guys are completely clueless. First he is 300lbs DE for a 3-4 defense! He isn't a 4-3 DE and has never been a even a good pass rusher. He is good at holding the point of attack in the running game. Since that is the case, the only place for him to play in a 4-3 defense is inside at the tackle position. That along with his lack of ability to rush the passer should tell you he isn't going to give you many sacks.
