Commanders | Team to visit with Abraham
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 22:35:39 -0800
ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Washington Commanders scheduled New York Jets franchise DE John Abraham for a visit Sunday night, March 12. It will be interesting to see if the Commanders have the right draft choices to trade to the Jets for Abraham. The team has only a second, a fifth, two sixths and a seventh in the 2006 NFL Draft.

I will vomit if this happens. I am so sick of seeing the Skins and Giants in the FA news. If anything, we need some Cowboys action in FA just to shut up the complainers on these boards - like myself.

Seriously though, it seems like 3 of the 4 NFC East teams are making strong runs so far in FA. Guess who the 4th is.

Relax Grasshopper.. good things are coming!!.. Besides, we dont need a John A for our DL. Plus,, he is a RFA,, which means the skins have to deal something to the jets for him. they have a 2, 5, (2)6's and a 7th. I dont see how this get this done with just those picks. Unless of course they give up next years 1st.. leaving them with no 1st or 4th next year. but either way, who cares, what they do.. they still suck!!

I agree. I know we don't need JA. And I also agree that there is no reasonable way this deal will complete considering what the skins have to offer. My beaf is the simple fact that they are in the news AGAIN, really showing FA's that they are serious about improving their team. I kind of hope they do get him, so they totally sacrifice the future of their team for the uncertain now.

All I ask is that JJ starts flapping his jaw and huge wallet around trying to show FA's that the Boy's will be contenders and that we are serious about it.

But what do I know? In JJ and Parcells I trust.

A bust, a gun-shy QB (admittedly, a physically talented one), and a 2nd won't get that deal done, imo.

While Snyder certainly can pull a rabbit out of his hat, I don't think they have the ammo (namely a 1st) to get it done.

I was kidding, kinda. :bang2:

However, I feel pretty confident that they can get it done if need be. Likely trading next years number one.

Why would you want him? That puts you guys right at the border on cap....

you better pray nobody gets injured forcing you to sign someone new.

It wouldn't surprise me if Danny Snyder gives the Jets this year's 2nd, next year's first and second rounder for Abraham.

I think they just have a philosopical difference on how to build a franchise winner.

For them, it appears they would rather pay up (big time) for a veteran rather than build through the Draft.

That said, this approach has not worked for them for close to a decade now and you'd figure they would change their approach if it doesn't work.

No disrespect to the Commander fans (SaT)here, but ...

IMO the Skins are spend hapy; perhaps even getting the wrong players. Remember when they acquired Deon Sanders and some other big name players about 3 years ago? They crashed and burned. Now it's Randle El !

Did they really need Randle Ego for a ridiculous amount of money? Now that Ramsey is gone, who is going to deliver the ball to Moss, Randle Ego ...bad Legs Brunell?

Look, I'm really not trying to be disrespectful, and I could be wrong, but I'm not certain if the Skins are resolving there big gaps on the OL. I don't know about the Cowboys and Giants (only because I'm not fans of those teams), but you'd better believe that the Eagles will be bringing a powere house up against opponent OLs.

I think the Skins had bigger problems to fix other than the WR positions.

I think you meant Lloyd instead of Juravicious. Am not in any way happy about the skins signings and if anything..... I think they have spent a lot of money to acquire those they acquired. that is the only negative..... i do think they are now acquiring character players... players with resolve to win and these players are young players...... yet to make names for themselves. In the 2 or 3 years that Gibbs has been there.... thir offseason moves has panned out well and i think the 3 players they acquired in FA this year will be terrific over the years. I hate them but i wont knock them for addressing their needs.....

I've got Jurevicius on my mind -- I felt he would be a good fit in Philly. I'm a little upset over that one ...and Bentley (Cleveland is not on my good list).

Thanks.:eek::

The best thing right now is for the Skins to be crowned "Paper Champions." Whenever this has happened in the past, they have imploded and failed to live up to expectations.

When everyone was picking them as the bottom feeders of the NFC East last year, they come together, put a string of wins on the board and end up in the playoffs.

Let them sign all the top FAs that they want. The sound of their playoff chances exploding next year will be even more sweet with that huge payroll attached to it.

IMO, and I could be completely off base, but I think the problem the Skins could run into if they basically sign all these high priced FAs and nudge up right under the cap (with most of the restructurings already completed), is an injury during training camp/pre-season. It just doesn't give you much flexibility to take advantage of opportunities/necessities at that stage.

I think it's advisable to have the ability to sign free agents who are cut later during this year to either improve the roster and more importantly, to replace injured players with decent guys.

Taylor Jacobs, Patrick Ramsey, and the 2nd rounder. Get 'em Joe.

I doubt a couple pieces of garbage and a 2nd rd pick nets a franchise DE

I'm hoping they dont get Abraham...that all we need, for Greg Williams to have a REAL pass rushing threat to use there...he's done an amazing job the last two yrs with clearly nothing more than average front 7 talent at best, adding a dominant guy like Abraham would make their D pretty stout

like it or not, they have a hell of a coaching staff and are adding good players, if Gibbs can get another yr like last yr out of Brunell and they get Abraham, they'll be in the drivers seat in the NFC East
