Twitter: Skip Bayless. I'll just go with Andy

Part of me hopes this comes to fruition. Ride with Dalton.

Greed is always a bad look, especially undeserved greed; and that’s what Dak is showing now.

To all you who use the “QB market” as a means to explain why Dak “deserves” $35-$40m/yr, don’t even start. Two terrible overpays by other teams shouldn’t obligate the Cowboys to follow suit. Dak is an average QB at best and completely reliant on all-pro talent surrounding him to be competent. That’s a proven fact!

I don’t think signing Dalton was just about Dallas signing a good backup QB..

They did this to gain leverage in negotiations and if things go south they can go to Dalton.

Signing Dalton is not really a Dallas Cowboy type of move and it sounded like Jerry was done with that after Kyle Orton.

Something is up.

QB competition is always a good thing. He may have for 3 Mil, but that can turn into like 7 mil. Yes that is cheap for a starting QB, but its also now a huge leverage over Dak. Andy has taken the Bengals who fields a way worst team than the Cowboys have to playoff games over and over and has made the Pro Bowl multiple times. Dak needs to stop thinking about him only and I get everyone wants to get paid but you also got to see they are building a team around him and he is no Peyton Manning.

We need to sign Ryan Finley!!!

Think about it.

The Bengals benched Andy Dalton for Ryan Finley. Why would we want the Bengals back up. We should sign their starter, Finley!
Dak will come running back then!

Countless Dak threads ago, I made the point that positional scarcity at the QB position isn't what it used to be. A long time ago, finding a big tall guy who could make reads and throw the ball at an NFL level was hard. A lot of the guys starting in the NFL were complete bums.

That isn't the case anymore. Personally, I think a lot of the difference in QB output is really a result of coaching and teammates. If you have a good O-line, good skill position people and a coach who is worth his salt, there are a lot of guys who can play QB and look good. The college and high school games used to be very run oriented and now they aren't. As a result, a lot more QB's are getting trained.

Dak's agent didn't really get that. Philly, LA and others screwed up with their contracts. Dak's agent wanted Dallas to screw up even worse and was counting on Jerry's propensity to cave.

Now, Jerry is going to get to watch Dak go head to head with Dalton making $7m. He is going to do the math in his head and figure out how many pro-bowlers at other positions he could afford between $35m and $7m.

Dak is going to have to destroy Dalton in camp and I'm guessing he won't.

I agree with you. After Orton, Jerry always errs to safety by having those young project backups or complete journeymen who don’t pose a threat to the starter. This is different

Sit out the first 4 games, Dak, so we can see Andy Dalton carry this team to a 2-2 or worse record for the month of September. Also, just so I can see the anti-Dakers screaming for Jerry to give in and already sign Dak.
