Lets see, Barry Switzer works with Troy Aikman every day, has access to all the players 10 times more than Skip Bayless, AND is, by everyone's admission, very popular among the black players, but HE IS ASKING SKIP if it is true that Aikman is gay?

Lets see, Aikman is gay, Steve Young is gay, Jeff Garcia is gay... rich, popular, high profile QB's associated with California in some way, HAVE to be gay right?

Aikman not only denied it, he said what bothered him about it most is that it runs contrary to his beliefs. I heard him say that, with my own ears, on a radio interview by Brad Sham on the Bayless garbage back when Aikman was still playing. So he not only denied it, he denied it on the grounds of what he believes to be right and wrong. Not exactly a PC answer on it either.

Skip Bayless is a tool.

So did Rev Ted Haggard.

(Comment not a judgement on Aikman "is or isn't" only that most people who are, deny it if they are outed by someone else - I think Aikman isn't, but really don't know anymore than I know about anyone here, and care even less)

Dextor Clinkscale??? Of such importance to Dallas Cowboys history.

I really hope that ESPN Gameday comes to Strawberry Canyon next year. I will make a sign that reads "Skip Bayless is Gay, pass it on". My goal is To have that sign at every College Gameday site like when you see that Wazzu flag at every game.

Is there even a soul that likes Skip Bayless? He is the type of person that you would simply say "Kill yourself" too.

Bayless is a guy that regularly "outs" athletes at his discretion, but refuses to discuss his sexuality... he sez it's his business...

If anyone is a queer, it's Skippy Boy Bayless. He looks and holds himself in a very feminine way.

I guess if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it must be, eh?

But some people DO care, and they DO see it as a moral issue. Aikman professes that HE cares, and that HE sees it as a moral issue. And he denies that he is.

And for a guy who says he doesn't know to come out in a book and even leave the question in people's minds is nothing less than dirt.

And the sad thing about our world today is that because of the Ted Haggards of the world, everyone has become so jaded that if you ARE ACCUSED then you are held in suspicion.

I know Cowboys haters in Houston who have, on more than one occasion, said "Aikman is gay." They don't know Troy Aikman. They have never met him. They are idiots, yes, but they are also very much like a large portion of this nation. If someone is accused, even without facts or an examination of the evidence, then they are treated like they are guilty.

For Bayless to come out now and say he has no idea and never did makes what he did even more unconscionable. If you have no idea, then why even put it on paper? It is called professional prostitution. (Using a nice word here) Selling any semblance of integrity for money.

I'm not saying Troy was, or is, gay but just because he said he wasn't and it was against his beliefs doesn't mean he actually wasn't, or isn't. It wouldn't be the first time I've heard of guys saying they're not and saying that it's against their beliefs and yet a few years later they come clean that they are in fact gay.

Again I'm not saying he is or not, I don't know and really don't care, but just because he threw the beliefs line out there doesn't exactly mean he's telling the truth.

That's the biggest problem with a label like this being tagged on a person. There is absolutely no real way you can prove, 100%, to everyone that you're not. There are people out there who are going to question that he is, always have and always will, simply because this rumor got started and got attached to him, no matter what he says or does.

I agree. My exact point made in the post right above yours. And that is the biggest problem with what Bayless did. But the good news for Aikman or anyone else is that in the final analysis, what people say doesn't matter. The truth matters. If Aikman cares about the issue, and he really isn't, then no amount of Bayless garbage can ever change that. I've talked to people who know Aikman very well (associated with him professionally) who say there has never been a bigger load of garbage than what Bayless tried to unload.

Its not worth getting worked up about this stuff. False accusations, innuendo etc. There really is no effective way to combat it except to just live your life and realize that you can't control what others think about you and that most of the time it doesn't matter anyway.

I don't care how close someone supposedly is. People can have secrets. Yes, see Ted Haggard. That's not to say Troy is this or that. Not at all. But rather to say that denials or close friends or whatever aren't proof positive.

But no matter where you stand morally on this or similar issues, obsessing over "are they or not" is misguided and a waste of time. From everything I see about Troy Aikman, I like and admire him. I think he probably has a past, or a struggle or a secret like most of us do. But I don't worry about it much.

*nods* Exactly. It's simply not important at all cause you can never know, 100%, for sure. It's just life.

I agree with you on this, but I would add this as well. If the writer of the book says he doesn't know. And if the coach who found it to his advantage to float the rumor is asking the writer of the book if it is true, then that means he doesn't know. And if players say they THINK this or that (allegedly the players said this, and Skippy's line about the black star players doesn't at all line up with what we know), then that means THEY DON'T KNOW.

If NO ONE has come forward and even made an accusation. (As what happened with Haggard and others)

Then what right does someone have to say it or print it?

Even here we are saying "I don't know if he is or isn't", when HE SAYS HE ISN'T, and there isn't ONE SHRED OF EVIDENCE that he is. Isn't that a bit wrong? I mean it becomes a discussion literally pulled out of the air.

Not at all saying there isn't some right or wrong in accusations etc. Just saying its impossible to "defend" once the accusation is made.

I do think its a sad commentary on the people that initiate or perpetuate this kind of thing.

Yeah, but Haggard was out there condemning everybody that opposed his beliefs, condemning them to hell. It almost seems as if the guy was trying to appease his own conscience, because he was sleeping with gay hookers and snorting cocaine. AIkman, on the other hand, was not out there projecting his beliefs on anybody. He was accused of something which really has no relevant to his sport.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

If I Skip Bayless in public I would humbly approach him, for your stereotypical autograph.

"Hey Mr. Bayless, I love your work on First Take. You're incredible insightful and your dilligence to the craft is impecable."

About the time he goes to sign something.... Boom, ****ing Norris chop right to the throat. As he's gasping for air and proper authorities take me away, I'll be saying, "Thats for Troy."

So if anyone hears of him coming to the South Carolina/North Carolina area, I'd be willing to drive 3 or 4 hours to chop him in the throat.

Keep me posted.

You're comments are very inaccurate.

Did Haggard share his beliefs? Yes! Did he condemn anyone who opposed them? No! People often jump to this erroneous conclusion if someone states a belief that conflicts with their own.

And while the fact that Haggard took actions inconsistent with what he encouraged others to do certainly makes him a hypocrite (welcome to the club) it doesn't necessarily mean his motive was to appease his own conscience. I suspect he was and is sincere in his beliefs but has trouble walking them out like the rest of us humans on various matters.

I suspect most of us exhibit "walk vs talk" inconsistencies. Sometimes out of ignorance and other times very deliberately with an attempt to hide it. Sometimes we come clean when confronted with it and other times we try to justify it away.

Haggard just did so on a very large stage.

And lest we lose track of the original point illustrated by Haggard - he's a great example, along with Palmeiro & others that a denial doesn't mean its not true.

The newspapers have no choice. The sports pages are really the only thing that still sells papers. And just reprinting the latest story from the AP doesn't do it. Controversy is what sells. I'm surprised that more papers haven't gone outrageous before they all go bankrupt.
