Bayless wrote three best-selling books on the Cowboys: the aforementioned "God's Coach," and "Hell Bent," as well as one that came in between those called, "The Boys."
The books aren't all bashing the Cowboys. In God's Coach, he interviewed a bunch of the old Cowboys and there are tons of good anecdotes in there. He came down pretty hard on Landry, though. The second two aren't as good, I don't think.
Once upon a time, Bayless was a solid newspaper columnist, a talented writer. He had some pretty good sources and could craft a pretty good piece that could be funny at times, and of course, provocative.
In recent years, however, Bayless has done less writing and more radio and TV, mostly TV. He has morphed into a high-pitched, ranting clown. He burned up most of his sources, so now he's not reporting anything, but spouting opinions on TV that are created to shock the viewer and ignite a reaction.
It's all or nothing with Bayless. Something or somebody is either great or horrible. There's no in between, no gray area.
One of the things that bothers me most about him is he takes himself way too seriously. He has become a joke to most viewers, but sadly for Skip, he doesn't know this yet.
