Slam dunk draft

So we give away the better player

Amazingly, you can't just make teams trade for guys you don't want. Sometimes, you have to give something to get something.

"Cole Beasley is coming off a 36 catch season. He'll be a 30 year old free agent in 2019. I wonder if we can pry him away from the Cowboys?" - said no team ever

I've seen him play at Indiana. I live in Big Ten country and went to a BT school, so I see those guys more than some others. It just wasn't a position I figured the Cowboys would take at that spot in the draft. But if he's the biggest "complaint" I'll take it.
HOOSIERS,,,:lmao:
Man! I went back there in 05 when my father was dying,,,, I was walking around in a
K-mart when they announced over the intercom there ' blue light' special sale happening now for like the next 30 minutes or something, and that gals accent was absolutely mid-stride cringe worthy ,I gave a silent thanks to the almighty right there& then,,,that I no longer lived thereo_O

:lmao::starspin::lmao:

Too bad we uhhhh WON a football game vs philly last week of the season..!!?? :omg::facepalm::rolleyes:

1st Round (19) - LB Leighton Vander Esch Boise State - Good pick for the spot. He has a high upside and has been compared to Urlacher. I know there is question about his medical history but given everything I say B+ with A+ potential.

2nd Round (50) - OG Connor Williams Texas - The Cowboys are money when it come to drafting lineman. Kid has a first round grade and we got him at 50. Zeke is licking his chops... A for this pick

3rd Round (81) - WR Michael Gallup Colorado State - Unfair to grade him as a Dez replacement. However, he is a strong addition to the WR room. Most important to me is his ability to run crisp routes of the entire tree. A on this pick and shift for the shift in philosophy.

4th Round (116) - DE Dorance Armstrong Jr Kansas - Can rush they passer when called upon and adjusted well in a scheme change. He went where projected. I think a solid C+ with and B upside

4th Round (137) - TE Dalton Schultz Stanford - Witten's remplacement was not available in this draft. Despite what basement GM's think, HOF Tight End don't grow on trees. Schultz can be a solid tight end who can catch and block. I give this a solid B.

5th Round (171) - QB Mike White Western Kentucky - Has a strong arm and projects to be a decent back-up. We should have done defense but he is ok. Solid C Grade.

6th Round (192) - Traded to Rams for WR Tavon Austin WVU - 100% worth a 6th round pick. The Rams needed to use him similar to the way the Chiefs use Tyreek Hill. Very high upside and potential here. The WR room is shaping up nice. Solid A

6th Round (193) - LB Chris Covington Indiana - Athleticism gives Covington a shot to be a solid back-up/rotation player and immediate contributor on special teams. A solid C+/B-.

6th Round (208) - WR Cedrick Wilson Boise State - Cowboys are making it known they are going after strong route runners and they found another one in Wilson. Bonus is his ability to return punts. The Cowboys have gone full Belichick on the WR position in filing the room with WR's who can run the entire route tree with precision. I'm sorry Ms. Dez Bryant / I am for real / Never meant to make your baby cry / I apologize a trillion times --- NOT!!!
Solid B+ for the late draft find.

7th Round (236) - RB Bo Scarbrough Alabama - Scarbrough is a bruiser who looks to punish defensive when Zeke takes a breather. The NFC East defenses are about to take a pounding. A for getting this kid in the 7th freaking round.

I don't know why people think we should have chopped Beasley. Not Beasley's fault teams took all the short underneath passes away from Dak. Beasley is still good if we can run well, and throw downfield, keeping teams honest. That happens and Beasley is very good again.

if they had moved up 2 spots and got Derwin Freakin James?
moved up slightly in the 4th and got Jewell?
grabbed Settle at any point?
that would have been slam dunk

as it stands im glad lb oline are filled and they have a blocking (only) tightend if Witten leaves

Barkley and Guice are now in the nfce along with tons of elite tightend and wr threats
elite safety is going to be a game decider

the d lines of all 3 of those teams is crazy stacked

He’s much faster which makes him more dangerous as a returner.
But fumbles at a much higher rate. If people blame Switzer for losing the game against the Rams when he fumbled with over 8 minutes left in the first half while we were still winning I can't imagine how some of you will complain about Austin. Switzer was dangerous in the return game and even scored a TD but he is much more then that. I rather have Switzer and Austin then Austin and Beasley, as a matter of fact I would have Switzer over Austin and Beasley

Haha people complain about Switzer fumbling once and so in love with a guy that fumbles every game

And Switzer's fumble was really the fault of Woods crossing right in front of him as the ball was coming down.

But I'm fine moving on from Switzer. I hope that we try to extend Beasley this summer. He's our best WR.

I liked your comment only for the first half. Beasley isn't our great receiver and can't wait until he is gone. Hurns, Gallup, Brown and Wilson are all guys I'm more excited about then Beasley. We are getting away from guys that only do 1 thing and going towards guys playing multiple spots.

Defenses were more likely to double Beasley than anyone on our team last year. I don't see that changing this year.
Beasley wasnt doubled as much as some think. Once teams figured they didn't have to use their best corner on Dez, Beasley went against better talent...... Which he regressed

Until the “December referee” counts the basket, no draft is a slam-dunk, LOL!

Scar is a steal!!! He dominated all competition until he got hurt...perfect compliment to Zeke and the RB room. You win playoff football with dudes like this.He is effectively the contingency plan in case Zeke gets dumb again. SMART MOVE BY THE FO. Disagree with your take on Mike White. Hes a 2nd or 3rd round QB that we hijacked late. Dude was super productive..a pure passer and ultra accurate. Has a big arm too. He will push Dak. Again, that was a smart pick. He's basically the contingency plan in case Dak flames out. We had no choice but to rollthe dice. LOVE THE PICK! Covington ..I don't love..but I get it. Its more a special teams pick than anything. All in all...I give our draft a B.

Meaning other teams put their best resources on Beasley. Our best WR. And cheaper than both starters.

And Beasley failed when he went against top talent in the other team. He isn't our best receiver the coaches just played him more. The better receiver just got sent to Oakland

Biggest head scratcher to me is Covington, but overall we've done a lot worse in drafts.

Good start, not sure about the middle, ended well.

Covington is actually easily explainable. Anyone taken at that point in the draft would be a long shot, and of course Covington is too. But what Covington has that others don’t at that point is untapped upside and the measurable of a very good player. He started college as a QB and converted to LB, and his development was slowed by a significant injury. He’s still learning the position. Ultimately it was a choice between going with a long shot that has limited apparent upside versus one that has much more upside.

Our "best WR" was neutered to the point of 36 catches for 314 yards without opening up the passing game (26th in the NFL) to big plays from the other guys.

There's nothing special about Cole Beasley.

I love it because it's new.

My hope is we bring in Art Briles again as a consultant to build an offense for us.
