Slant Pattern Question

I'm not sure they baited Dak into the play. The situation plays a role.
I was referring to the second interception against GB. As you say the Safety appeared to move forward movement as soon as CeeDee made the cut.
The question still comes back to...why does it always seem to be this play that gets picked off and more importantly how do we eradicate the play (with the same personnel or additions).
Eg would/could Washington be used on that play (once we practice squad Talbot).

It was some talking head mentioning that whilst these plays work in practice, defenses are aware of the play and more importantly how we don't cope with the DB alignments.... looked like we were baited into the play.

The good news is that we've seen the defense eat that play up for three straight games.. I'm going to go out on a limb and say McCarthy is in the offensive meetings this week stressing that we can't let that get to four straight. Also now that it has cost them a game you can bet Dak and CD will be going over this until their eyes bleed..

Yep, spot on. Dak and CeeDee appear OK in other connections, do it isn't the cope out 'lack of chemistry'. Do we try say Washington on that particular play‍♂️

They need to be throwing quick slants. And shallow crossing routes..

I’ve been clamoring for this since Romo was our QB. Moore won’t. He knows no only other way. The 4 and 3 call says it all. One WR crossing the field at 5 yards and 3 going 10 plus yards on outs. Awful concept to get 3 yards. Dak should have just ran it himself.

Ronnie, I always enjoy your posts. I really learn a lot from them. Thanks for teaching me things I don't know because I am not a coach, but a fan of the team.

Thanks.. I just like to talk football.. and as anybody that knows any Ivy League graduate can attest, we tend to be wordy! LOL! I don't have a lot of patience for the childish name calling and labels some of these people can't seem to keep themselves from assigning to this players or each other. Though I have certainly occasionally been guilty of it myself I try to steer clear of it as a rule. It accomplishes nothing (not that any post here does) and generally isn't particularly entertaining. And we come here for entertainment if nothing else.. at least I do.

If they had rolled him out he would have had a lane to do so easily. Because they decided to drop him straight back the defensive line was able to collapse the pocket very quickly. Part of the advantage of having an athletic QB is that you can put stress on the defense by having him on the move. Instead with the game hanging in the balance we chose to negate that advantage and make him a sitting duck. All again pointing back to Moore's fundamental lack of understanding of how to utilize his personnel and play to their strengths.

You can't just calculate slants. There's not always a DB waiting to catch the ball behind the WR. The QB simply has to determine whether or not the WR is going to get across the DBs face if the DB is there. Because he's basically throwing it right at the DB. Anticipating the WR will cut it off.

I'm assuming the play works most of the time. The problem is when the DB is closer and may jump the route. Every situation is different.

With the 2nd pick, you'll notice Ceedee threw up his hands. That indicates something went wrong. He probably couldn't get in front of the DB, and maybe Dak shouldn't have thrown it. Or Dak could be right and he could have, but didn't. You can't really calculate these situations.
OR it got tipped.. jeez did no one see the ball clearly get tipped?? we will never know what trajectory it was on ie would it have got to ceedee enough for him to break it up or Catch it or dos the db still break on it..

wrs need to read the safety's and clearly his route should have cleared the face of the db, maybe he didn't see it that way but he was wrong, yet if he didn't notice and dak saw his go up the seem and threw it

THE TIP from a DL messed that play up, clearly.

yet they keep calling it as if it was clean INT , it was not TIP, TIP, TIP, just the tip!!

I pointed out in another thread that #55 tipped the ball which certainly affected it. But these people don't seem to want to hear that. People have even posted that the safety "never moved" so Dak never should have thrown it.. when the video clearly shows the safety #20 dropping back 10 yards before the throw.. People see what they wanna see and if they see something they don't wanna see or that doesn't support their narrative, they pretend they didn't see it and keep arguing anyway.

Dropped back, waited for CeeDee to cut and then quickly moved up. Seems as if we got played there. Certainly movement north-south but from the angle behind Dak the Safety didn't need to move laterally.

It's possible too that CeeDee saw the safety moving up and thought "Hey I'm going to be wide open if I cut it up field." Not realizing that the reason the safety was coming forward was that the ball was on its way to the spot already. I am more than a little disturbed by the fact that CeeDee didn't look for the ball sooner given that it's a bread and butter play for us. He most certainly would be the primary read there so I don't know what he was thinking.

Ceedee either ran the wrong route, or the read CeeDee made was not communicated to Dak, or Dak read the break wrong. IF it was a communication issue it happens, if the break was read wrong that is on Dak, if CeeDee did run the wrong route that is on CeeDee. All the talking heads can place blame at Dak or CeeDee's feet but unless they 100% knew what the call was they are "guessing" who messed up.

Fed up of adding this point to every thread, so here goes......

Has anyone got completion rates (over the past 3 years) on slant patterns involving CeeDee and other receivers.

The reason I ask is that:
1) CeeDee doesnt execute his routes with precision.
2) CeeDee's size and preference for open spaces indicates he's not going to contest balls...and may result in his pulling out of certain routes.
3) Have thought over the recent years that Dak has a tendency to throw behind a slant run.
4) I attributed this, in part to Dak's injuries.....but it's continued this year.
5) So question is do the stats infer it's a Dak/CeeDee issue (then change the receiver making the slant).
6) Does Dak have problem connecting with other WR's on timed slant patterns?

For me I dont care who's to blame, what I dont like is that we continue to do the same thing, with the same cast......sh@t or get off the pot with the play.

We cant view these passes as being indicative of poor communication, Dak being blamed or CeeDee being blamed..... they went 11/15 (73%) 150 yards ave of 13.6....its more indicative of players being asked (by KM) to run plays they arent suited to.

.....and rest.

I don't know BUT WHATEVER THEY'RE DOING AT DAKS HOUSE ISN'T WORKING!!!!

Wouldnt it be great if we used that anticipation to throw the route CD actually ran, I agree KM calls the same routes and at some point use that set up to get the ball behind the cheating saftey....a pump fake would've had CD running clean down the field but that has to be a pre snap call.

Dak should have ran it or called a run play on the second pick when he threw it in the endzone. You have a lead you add to it with any points. He should have never thrown that pass.
