I see Delpit as low as the 3rd round in some mocks !! Crazy how things get overhyped the closer we get to the draft. I still think he is the best Safety in this class and will always be a playmaker. We have been clamoring for a playmaker at S for years.

Delpits 2018 tape, before INJURIES was superb. He would have been a very high pick. I have a feeling that when he is 100% he will be fine. I hope we don't miss out on something special. A big question is when do we pull the trigger.

He can be the “best” safety in the class but that’s all relative.

He can cover but his tackling technique is atrocious and likely wont get any better in the pros, basically a body tackler who whiffs way too much.

If he can become an average tackler and reach his potential as a FS he’ll go to the pro bowl multiple times.

Tackling is a legit concern, but if he can shore it up a bit I think he’ll be a stud.

From what I understand he played last season injured. I don't know how much that factored into his poor tackling but he did have a solid game in the National Championship game.
I trust what my team doctor tells me about him.

I think 3rd round is a bit crazy...but 17 would be as well. If I had to guess he’s probably somewhere between 25-40 in this draft class. Him and Winfield are in a tight battle for 2nd best S imo. I like nfl.com’s comp of Kenny Vacarro for Delpit. That seems about spot on...and that’s not a knock, that’s at least a quality starter

Somehow McKinney gets typecast as a SS, but really he’s a good overall S that also tackles really well and can play in the box when need be. If you watch Bama he played a good amount of both deep zone and slot man to man. He can do just about anything, just not sure if he does any exceptional is my biggest concern. He’s the clear cut best S in the 20-25 range of this class.

I wonder if he really does fall. With rumors of Winfield rising. Does delpit fall to round 2?

He had a high rate of missed tackles in 2018 too. In fact I think it was similar to 2019

I can see him being a slightly better version of Ha Ha in the NFL. Ha Ha has made some travels, but his pass defense at this level has been good to very good. His run defense is what has made him a well traveled player. Ha Ha is getting staring gigs every year, but is he ever going to get a deal longer than a year? This could be Delpit's fate. He could be in the Clinton-Dix/Tre Boston class of S's

Here's a little nugget to nibble on:

We talk about Delpit being better in coverage and McKinney being the better run defender but Delpit almost has double the run stops McKinney has for their career. So yes, the missed tackles are a concern, but maybe his instincts also put him in more position to make stops than other players so it balances out a bit? Something to think about.

Da hell is a "run stop"?

The short answer is a much better version of a tackle. EX...A safety could make a tackle after a 50 yard completion but that wouldn't be considered a stop.

Per PFF:

"A stop is a play where a defender makes a tackle, and the location of the tackle means the play is a successful one for the defense. While the definition of a successful play for a defense will differ slightly from one site to another, here is how we have always defined it:

On a first down, if the offense gets 45% of the way to a first down or less
On a second down, if the offense gets 60% of the way to a first down or less
On a third or fourth down, if the offense doesn’t get a first down."

A lot of players had really good 2018 seasons, but not not so great in 2019. That doesn't really work for me, as a justification to draft them in 1. I want the play to be ascending, not descending
