I do not love the "first round caliber" players we brought in for 30.

Hoping for smokescreen strategy
The Cowboys 1st round pick that past 3 years was not on the visit list.

If they don't have any questions about a player, then they don't really need to bring that player in for a visit.

If Zack Martin was in this draft, they would NOT really need to bring him in for a visit even if they expected him to be available.
- The world knew he would move to OG and be an elite player with top notch character and work-ethic.

Michael Mayer is a Zack Martin type player in that respect.

All it takes is one team to like the player better than the average ranking to make them get picked higher.
It's about probabilities.

If there is a 10% chance a team over-drafts a player, that's not a high probability of happening.

Agreed. ..... Except, Cowboys don't need another TE.

I believe the Cowboys 1st pick will be either a RB, WR or DT not included in their 30 player visits.

Can’t wait til the 1st night is over and we end up taking someone that really has NOT been on our radar. And this board goes in to melt down mode.
I literally sit and eat my popcorn as folks lose they damn mind and call for Jerry and his son’s head. All that when the last 3 1st round picks are Lamb, Parsons, and Smith.
My last major meltdown was when Parcells didn't draft Witten in the 2nd round.

I had wanted them to trade back into the last 1st to draft him. When they skipped him in the 2nd I cussed Parcells...

Not knocking your work. I appreciate the thead and your efforts.

I'm just saying that might want to remove the rankings for anybody that has QJ in the top 16...

Brugler has QJ at #n34 in The Beast.

McShay's tier rankings had him at #26 also.

Didn't take your comment as criticism. I agree that a lot of the players on the list could go higher, and also that Quintin Johnston is likely to go lower. I've been hearing that a lot of clubs only have one 1st ground rated Wide Receiver. The way I'm interpreting the Cowboys list is that they have a group of receivers ranked in the low 1st to high 2nd round range, and that they think that may be where the value in this draft is for them at #26. I think Johnston is overrated also, but if he falls to 26, the Cowboys could take him. They don't have a true X receiver in the mold of Dez Bryant on the team. Personally, I think Cedric Tillman could turn into a decent X receiver, but he doesn't appear to be on the Cowboys list.

I've said in another thread, I think the Cowboys should try to trade down, but remain in the 1st round if possible. Perhaps the Saints, or the Chiefs would like to move up and grab a falling player. Another option is they get a couple of pick to move down into the top of the second round, but if I was the Cowboys, I'd charge a premium to move out of the 1st round. Since the Bills and Bengals both pick right after the Cowboys, they might even be able to get a little draft capital if both teams want the same player - since they are AFC rivals at this point.

I've always said it only takes one team to think more highly of a player. The Raiders and Patriots have a habit of overdrafting players pretty regularly, and not just in the first round.

Tell me a little bit about Mapu. Doesn’t look like he tested. What’s some of his strengths.
He reminds me of the 49ers Talanoa Hufanga. Coincidentally,NFL.com has them scored 5.98 and 5.99. They are both guys who don’t hit all the athletic metrics you’d prefer but they constantly show up and make plays. Mapu is bigger and that’s why I think he’s be ideal for Quinn’s third Safety slash Will Backer spot. Think how he wanted to use Keanu Neal and how Jayron Kearse is utilized. Mapu was a high school quarterback and it shows. He still has some work to do on defense, but he’s smart, aggressive as hell, and will probably be a stellar Special Teams guy from the get-go.

In my view our first pick at #26 could very well be Darnell Wright OT what is your feeling on that if it happens ?

Otherwise your going in another direction and hoping Avila is there in the 2nd Round

That's some good work, thank you.

I think it would be a bonus if Mazi Smith was still there when the Cowboys drafted in the 2nd round. Still don't understand all the WT's with 1st round predictions. I hope the Cowboys trade down in teh 1st round, I don't see any value at their current position.
