Tomorrow I am buying my first smartphone. I am deciding on the Android Pro or the iphone. I have done some research and asked people I know.

Which one do you prefer and why?

I cant tell you which is better but i own a iPhone and i love it. It does everything i ask of it.

Im still a blackberry guy because I like the keyboard but I know RIM is flushing itself down the toilet.

I'm an iPhone guy. App store is better. More quality apps and games. Android OS is very clunky compared to iOS. From my experience I've never known an iPhone owner want to switch to something else. Plenty the other way around.

Get what you want when it comes down to it. What do you WANT?

I have an Iphone and I am happy with it.

Can't say anything bad about the other as I have never tried one.

Your best bet is to do a hands on examination with both and decide which you like better.

Well you have met your first one. I switched carriers to get rid of my iphone.

it depends...
1) Are you pretentious enough to own an Apple product?
2) Do you have time to tell everyone you know, then every new person you meet, that you have an Apple product within the first 2 minutes of meeting them?
3) Are you into cult activities?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, you probably should not get an Apple.

;)

Actually, I think the Android phones have caught up to Apple in terms of intuitive controls & coolness factor. Do what Brain said - go to the ATT store, or the Verizon store, or Best Buy, and have someone walk you through the features of the phones in your price range. Spend time with each one & see how it feels in your hand. I have had an iphone in the past, but now I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. Both are great devices.

I don;t think there is a right or wrong answer here. You'll more than likely be very happy with either phone. Both platforms have a lot going for them.

If this is your first smartphone, then it would seem you're not prone to changing phones often. If that's the case maybe the iPhone is up your alley, as they only refresh them once a year or so.

On the other hand there is a seemingly endless line of new Android phones. If you want you can try them out until you have the one that has the right feel and performance for you, while still maintaining the main characteristics of the phone's software.

What is the android pro? I jsut got the droid 4 (just released on friday) and it is incredible. If you prefer a thin phone that still has a physical slide out qwerty keyboard its definitely the way to go.

Me, too. But I'm gonna hold until I can't anymore.

Someone said Android is clunky. :lmao2: I would say you def want an Apple product. Smarter savier individuals like myself tend to lean towards the platform that is not CLOSED. Some might even call it clunky.....

Android all day everyday and it isn't even close.

Just get an iPhone like the rest of the pasture grazing sheep, but don't say you were never warned. ;)

My GF absolutely hates her iPhone 4s

I can think of a half dozen people off the top of my head that dropped their iToys and are now running Andriods. I looked at both, went ICS in the Galaxy Nexus. EVERYONE I work with think it's a better phone than their iToys. Dang, make that seven people. My head pastry chef traded his i4 for a Razr.

Loves it, and sends all of our staff to me for advice on which Android system to get, which boils down to me asking them if they like a touch screen or keyboard interface.

FWIW, my first 3 smartphones were Blackberrys.

I've been using iPhones from the start with no plans to switch platforms anytime soon. I don't think you'll be upset with either one.

Wow, if your pastry chef likes android better, then that settles it.

Well, if it was the Exec Chef it would've ended the debate. He still uses a Nokia brick.

I switched from the droid X to the iPhone 4s a few months ago and love it. I liked the droid but for some reason I like the iPhone better. my wife has the droid now and when I went to use it I had already gotten so use to the iphone there were things I just couldnt remember how to do.

Word to the wise, shop around go to the local store and play with as many phones as you can to get a good idea as to what you like. Figure out what you need or don't need. The one thing I learned quickly about the iPhone is almost EVERYTHING cost money. I was a lil more than disheartened to find out that I had to dl an app just to do turn by turn directions, along with a few other things my droid did for free. Siri, its a fadish thing to me, not impressed.

Smarter and savier? Yet you spit out the same sheep comment and meat head coments...like broken records. Sheep! iPhone users are teh dumb! They took our jobs!!!!! They take I deal with ios and android os as my profession. Android is clunkier. Everything about it. That's why designers and programmers who deal with android gripe about it. LOL. And it's an open platform, ok. So what do you do with your phone (not closed) that's so special that iphone users can't? And if you were to take users and split them by IQ, i'd bet my life savings the higher iq side would be iphone users :) Just saying.

Heck, I tried android and gave it a shot. They screwed up making it so open that's why its so fragmented and makes developing/designing for it a pain in the butt.

They took our jobs? What are you even talking about? Im talking from purely a consumer stand point. You bailed off the deep end of the cliff for your own personal perversions w/ Apple.

My opinion is since I have owned them all and jailbroke them all rooted nearly all of them iPhone-3g-3gs-4, I have never once said this is my phone. Not one time did the factory load or broken phone blow me away like some of the roms coming down from the Android dev areas of the web. Not once.

Claim whatever knowledge you wish to fawn on folks here about your precious little Apple knowledge, but I promise you that I have numerous phones in my desk drawer right now that would run circles around your 4s. It wouldn't even be a contest and you know it.

I am more of a hack at these phones, its only a hobby. You wont see me claim some junk about knowing iOS and some feeble try w/ Android, I am just saying between 30 or so phones, the apple phones just can't compete once the optimized roms leek out. Lets not even begin w/ the customization of the phone to individulize itself more to the user has far more choices than the limited ability in the Apple Store. So you lose there too.

But hey...straight out of a box for say someone less smarter and savier...yeah I can see the shiny eye cuteness taking over the purchase. I will give Apple its due, then can polish a turd up real nice and call it a phone and sell it and look good doing it.

Yay?

I can't imagine why anyone would want anything other than an iphone. I've yet to see an Android phone I'd take for free over paying for a new Apple phone.

Just imagine how boring the world would be if we all had the same opinion?
