I have a friend who is saying that Todd Archer reported that the cowboys have informed Smith that they want him to play LT and moving FREE to RT.

Any truth to this?

I dont see why we would let a 20 year old rookie protect the blind side of Romo, and move one of the best LT's in the game to RT.

Kiper said the same thing. I think they will hope for this and try it out. If it doesn't workout in training camp you can always swap free back.

Archer apparently tweeted this.

Free is a good LT, but one of the best in the game he is not. He performed well at both tackle positions for us, but he's 27 and not the most athletic guy in the world.

Smith has all pro ability, he's 20, and he has the wingspan and everything you look for in a stud LT. Only makes sense to play him there. Maybe he'll play RT for a year or two, but he has all the tools to be a great LT in this league.

I am not expert on college players but from what little I have read is that he has little natural footbally intelligence, slow to pick up blitz schemes, and can be confused with stunts and twists. Not sure if that's true or not, but could be a issue for a young LT

O-Line coach Hudson Houck said Smith isn't a left or right tackle yet. They just want to get him in here and see.

He's 19 years old. Just needs some time to learn. If he had that much trouble he wouldn't have dominated like he did. He had plenty of quality competition at USC.

what do we do in the mean time

Free plays LT and Smith plays his natural spot at RT. We dominate and they switch when Free gets a bit older and we still dominate. This pick is a good thing.

What you read was BS. There was a bunch of crap that came out this last week about Smith that was total horse crap.

this is a great "problem" to have :)

i could see it happening but not this season. smith is only 20 years old so i am not assuming he will start this season. he is not a plug and play guy, he needs to develop

Pretty much

Why is that scary to you?

because our OL coach said a player we drafted at 9 isn't ready to play either position is scary.

ok, yeah, thats what I thought we would do but you made it seem like we wouldn't play Smith for a year or two

That's not what he said. He said he's not sure which position he's going to play yet.
