Smith for Foles?

I heard/read we might be able to get Minshew for a 6th round pick, I like him better than any thing we have or Foles at this point
Yep we need a QB that chugged whiskey then took a hammer to his hand and intentionally injured himself
Gardner Minshew once chugged whiskey and took a hammer to his hand in an attempt to keep his football eligibility going for one more year. He said it. This isn't some wild speculation. He told the story in great detail a little more than a year ago.

What has Foles done since that super bowl victory? Nothing I can recall. Last year he got beat out by Trubisky, I think. This year he got beat out by Dalton and Fields. Are the Bears even playing him at all in preseason or are they just making sure he doesn't get hurt so they can trade him? Anyone seen Foles play this preseason and what has he looked like?
I haven’t seen him play but I’m betting he’s better than Gilbert
I don’t know if foles is released or not and trading for him isn’t really an option
But there aren’t many options out there
I got to believe there is someone better than Gilbert
Rush has no arm but he’s better than Gilbert
I liked the idea of giving Gilbert a shot but the results haven’t been pretty

A creative solution to an obvious problem lol

With the Falcons AJ McCarron going down the price for any QB2 just went up.
Bengals released Eric Dungey (Giants, Browns, Dallas Renegades, Bengals since 2019).
Doubt we'll see Minshew pop up in any case. Meyer hasn't made a decision on his starter for one, and two, even if Lawrence starts he has a known commodity to keep as QB2.

We do need a solid backup but making a bad trade isn't the way especially 2 weeks before the season starts. The smart trade would only be Dalton who knows the playback and system. Anyone else would put us in poor shape if Dak went down early.

As to Smith, everyone has an opinion but the only one that counts is Quinn. He most likely will use Smith to blitz the QB along with Parsons. Besides we are going to keep 5 LBS not 6 because that is Quinn's MO normally. He'll keep Smith at least one more year.

Now Chicago isn't going to give up Dalton easily but there OL is really hurting so maybe just maybe this is but the McGovern interest is or maybe Williams where we could get Dalton and say a 4th or 3rd round pick. Chicago doesn't need another LB so when fans start making trade ideas, first check what the other team needs.

The LB talk was mostly just a joke.

Crazy idea...

Some people want Foles as our backup. Is this even feasible?

Jaylon Smith signed a 6 year, $68,421,000 contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including a $5,000,000 signing bonus, $35,406,678 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $11,403,500. In 2021, Smith will earn a base salary of $7,200,000, while carrying a cap hit of $9,800,000 and a dead cap value of $16,600,000.

Nick Foles signed a 3 year, $24,000,000 contract with the Chicago Bears, including a $8,000,000 signing bonus, $21,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8,000,000. In 2021, Foles will earn a base salary of $4,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $6,666,666 and a dead cap value of $14,333,334.

When people like you come up with these big trade deals you always seem to forget that for the reasons you want to unload a player EVERY team knows those same reasons too and so the chances of that trade working are slim and none.

The whole point of the Bears looking to trade Foles is for cap relief.

There is no reason they would take on Smith's bloated contract.

Not only that, but Chicago values Linebackers. If there's one team that wouldn't trade for Jaylon in any year, it's Chicago.

“People like you”? That sounds kinda snarky! We’re all just speculatin’, ain’t we?

Oline, Chicago might move on for one of their backup QBs. However, in no way are they trading for Jaylon. He doesn't fit a Chicago LBer in any way.
