Rookies come in and hit the field this weekend for three days. They work in with the vets over time after that.
Vets have been working out on the field on their own since they came back over a week ago. They get that weekend off while the rookies do their thing.
Jaylon has been working out on the field and in the weight room with the vets. He will not get the weekend off with them and will work with the rookies up through the walkthrough.
"Dialing back" is a relative notion. He will still be doing more than both the rookies and the vets overall. They just want him to get acclimated with the coach's "process."
The coaches in that practice do their best to run the rookies ragged; it's harder than any other practice they see. The idea is to see where their limits are and to set expectations. Jaylon does not need that as he has been with the team for over a year now and has been training nonstop. Putting him through that when the vets are scheduled rest does not make a lot of sense.
They are allowing him to push himself but putting limits on how much.
