Sporting News came out with their rankings of 2010 NFL teams. Here it is:

1. Colts
2. Cowboys
Fox analyst and former Cowboys FB Daryl Johnston:
"Does the Cowboys at #2 surprise me? Absolutely not. One of the big concerns people had was that Dallas always melted down at the end of the year. I think they silenced a lot of critics. Linebacker Keith Brooking has brought in some great leadership,"

3. Packers
4. Saints
5. Chargers.
6. Jets
7. Steelers
8. Eagles
9. Ravens
10. Vikings
11. Falcons
12 Giants
13. Titans
14 Pats
15. Texans
16. 49ers
17. Dolphins
18. Panthers
19. Bengals
20. Cards
21. Jags
22. Bears
23. Commanders
24. Broncos
25. Browns
26. Bucs.
27. Chiefs
28. Raiders
29. Lions
30. Seahawks
31. Bills
32. Rams.

Wow. That's pretty high. Talent-wise I can't think of a team better than us, but for some reason we just can't seem to make deep pushes in the playoffs. With our talent though I could easily see us making a Super Bowl. Some of it depends on luck though, so if we can get hot at the right time we have a legitimate shot at getting #6.

Patriots at #14? Guess the media honeymoon is over.

And Steelers at #7? Seriously?

The Steelers didn't even make the playoffs and lost to the worst teams in the league. 7 is more than generous.

I think that is what he is trying to say. The Steelers shouldn't be that high by any means.

Just because we have a lot of talent doesn't mean we don't need to improve. We obviously do. But then again so do the other 31 teams.

This team has failed via the offense every year for some time now. Even 2007 it failed at the end of the year.

We offer hope at times but just cannot consistently score. Until that is rectified we will simply tease and fail.

This team has a high powered QB and running game. It needs a high powered group of WRs. We have one. We need at least one more. I'll take nearly high powered.

Seriously. We need another WR. Do you want to bet a chance at a SB on RW being that guy?

I agree with another poster. We need a kicker. A want is a KR. We need OL depth esp at center. We MAY get by if a guard goes down. MAYBE at tackle. I think we will be in trouble if Gurode goes down. Hope I'm wrong if so. A ballhawking safety is a want.

PS: Those rankings are rank.

Scoring points has been a problem late in the year but the problem lies in the OL who do not do well against top-tier DLs for the last 3 years now and that is what is holding us back. I think this OL probably peaked back in 2006/7 and have gotten worse each of the past two years.

I think the running game numbers from this offense have always been a bit of a mirage. They were mostly due to draws and Barber's odd long runs in short yardage late in the game that he used to pull off back in 2006 &7. I actually think it has been 12-13 years since we actually had a good consistent running game.

I do think with a couple of key OL changes, the insertion of Felix in the starting lineup, another year of maturation for Miles and hopefully the emergence of KO or resurrection on RW11 this offense could become a juggernaut.

The other side of the coin is Wade needs to think of doing some things scheme wise to pull off a few more turnovers. There won't be as much player turnover this year in the defense so hopefully that gives everyone the courage to throw in a few more wrinkles. I do think we need to start asking Ware to drop into coverage more to keep him fresher and disguise where the 4th and 5th rushers are going to be coming from a bit more. Maybe we'll even see a few more zone blitzes next year out of the secondary.

The potential to get better is there. I do think the 2010 team should be stronger than the 2006, 2007 & 2009 teams. Let's hope we really put it altogether here this offseason.

Dallas needs to sure up the offensive line and safety spot... Then I'll be ready to say, yeah they're ready to contend for a Superbowl.

I think they are underestimating the Patriots. They still have Brady, Moss and Welker. They will be a year older on defense. I think they will make the playoffs again and should be a good team by the time all is said and done.

They don't necessarily still have Welker. I've heard a few analysts on BSPN say they think he's done.

I've made this argument a bunch of times but...whatever.

The Cowboys are as talented as anybody. Name one game in the last, let's say three seasons, that we lost even though we played well. Some teams can play solid football and lose. Other teams shoot themselves in the foot to lose games. The Cowboys are the second.

Realistically, we should not be #2.

Can't see any reason to put us above the Saints.

Yes, we beat them, but they had a great year and did what it took to be Super Bowl champions. Is there really much reason to expect them to drop-off?

I hadn't heard much about the extent of his knee damage.

Hard to say exactly what order, but I agree with their top 6.

I think the Saints, Cowboys and Packers look like the top 3 NFC teams (if Favre returns, put the Vikings in the mix).

The Colts, Chargers and Jets appear to be top 3 AFC.

I just pray we stay as healthy next year as we did this past year. We squandered a really good opportunity (as we did in '07).
Now I'm depressed...:(
I miss football!
