Snap Counts vs Giants

He's played 3 games, 2 sacks.

And leads team in total pressures, 1 which lead to AB pick 6.

Gregory doing just fine.

Let me know when Basham has a fraction of that production.

He's played 4 games. He's on a career best 8 sacks projection for the season. In his 7th year. That's pretty pedestrian. Yet he's regarded around here like he's this uber pass rusher.

Don't know why you mentioned Basham. I've already said he sucks. Gregory is better than Basham but Gregory is also overrated.

Gregory is not an All Pro.

But he is one of the best pass rushers on the team, easily top 3. And his play has helped elevate this defense.

Cowboys do not have enough of these catalytic players so why so much hate.

Just tune out the kool-aid drinkers and enjoy the ride.

"Hate" - Telling the truth about a player's performance over their career.

There is absolutely nothing about Randy Gregory's 6 and almost a half year career in the NFL that shows the player you speak of.

I keep hearing he's this disruptive force. I've been hearing that since 2015. Getting a couple of sacks in 4 games and against our JAG backup OT last year doesn't impress me much, to be honest.

It's about this season.

It's about right now.

Forget the other stuff.

This is not the same Diggs that we saw last season.

This not the same Zeke from last few seasons.

This is not even the same Dak.

I for one am laser focused on our present journey.

And Gregory has been a positive on THIS team.

There is a reason Kearse is a journeyman, he cannot cover AT ALL.i cant believe he is the main guy covering TEs for us.we are playing all pro TEs later in the season and i dont want to see Kearse in coverage.

DE snaps were interesting for this game. Don’t know if it is just specific for this game or a possible trend.
Basham 56 snaps
Odig 41 snaps
Golston 40 snaps
Gregory 39 snaps

Golston with more snaps than Gregory and almost as many as Odig. Golston has really came on the past 3 games.

Could it be that Golston is very good?
Could it be that Golston will be as good or better than Odig?
I am glad both are on the team.

What does this mean for Gregory in a contract year? How high of a contract are the Cowboys willing to spend on Gregory with Golston, Odig, and Basham under contract?

Interesting to see what happens with snap counts when Armstrong is back.

Golston probably plays more inside than Gregory does. Probably save Gregory more for 3rd downs and pass rushing situations.

I'd quietly be negotiating a 2-3 year extension with Jayron Kearse RIGHT NOW.

If he snags 2-3 interceptions he's going to get paid well.
I would’ve signed him 2 weeks ago lol but yea his stock is on the rapid rise

Gregory needs to be out there more. I could understand if he was old.

I actually think they like doing the rotation because it amps up the pass rush in the second half, when they know the other team is going to start passing more to keep up. It's a good strategy - same one we employed in 2014-2018.

Always interesting….Here are some noteworthy tidbits:
  • The Cowboys had 78 snaps vs giants 68.
  • Jabril Cox only had 4 snaps. With the release of Jaylon Smith, Cox is expected to see more action. He did make a big play at the goal line against Daniel Jones. Will he start getting more playing time next week?
  • Jayron Kearse was the only defender to play on all 68 giants snaps.
  • Micah Parsons is playing more each week. He had 63 snaps Sunday which was 93%.
  • Zeke and Pollard had a 60-40 split in PT. Zeke had 47 snaps (60%) and Pollard had 31 snaps (40%). That’s good for production and saves some wear on Zeke.
Anything else jump out?

Schultz at 73% to 40% for Jarwin. Nice to see them going with the better option and not forcing anything based on paycheck.

And I have to wonder about LVE and if he’s following Jaylon out the door? Not being cut or anything but maybe they trade him if they get a decent offer? He’s out of here next year anyway.

Never sure if you are being serious or not.

Basham is a rotation player at best.

Sign Gregory to a reasonable contract or find a better player in FA.

That is not Basham.

When reading Risen's posts always start w/the assumption he is playing around or being sarcastic.

I don't want to agree with you, but I do. I'd love for his story to end with him becoming a perennial probowler for the Cowboys. But he's running out of time.
I think he's good. Maybe a little better than just average. But we spent a second round pick that we didn't get full time use out of for several years. When you finally get him, you'd like to see a better return. I haven't given up hope, but the years in front of him are shorter than the years behind him.

Yep, Gregory has played well, he's obviously talented, but I don't think he's ever going to live up to the hype on him. Never bought that his problems were all the fault of the mean old anti-weed NFL. If he does turn into a star, great, but I wouldn't count on it.

But since his name was mentioned, you know who I kind of like? No, not as a star, but just as a good rotation player... Armstrong. Not until this year, but in 2021 I think he's shown a little something. He actually reminds me of some of Belichick's OLBs that are never pure speed guys tearing around the edge, but who play with a lot of power for their size and push the pocket. I still don't see how Brady held onto the ball when DA chopped his arm in that first game.

Hey BAT, if he's ever serious, let me know and I'll give him a time out.
