Snap counts vs the FT.
It was great having Randy Gregory and Neville Gallimore back as evidenced by the defenses great work yesterday.
Some things that stand out…
  • Cowboys had 85 snaps to the FT’s 65. Score shouldn’t have been that close.
  • Because of injuries and the ejection of L. Collins, 8 different Cowboys OL played yesterday.
  • RB Cory Clement only had 31 snaps yesterday but played well. In fact, I think he should have played more than Zeke who is still clearly hobbled.
  • Parsons was so dominant, it’s hard to believe he was on the field for 79% of the defensive snaps.
  • Randy Gregory only had 31 snaps but he certainly made them impactful.
  • Kelvin Joseph has been back a month and yet still is not on the field other than STs.
Anything else stand out in the snap counts?

CW didn't play OL. He played FB and TE. Look at the percentages for Martin/McGovern.

Steele played even before Collins and TS were out. The OT snap counts add up to about 212%. Those extra 12 were Steele at TE

WFT got back into the game when Parsons was out.

Why would Joseph play when the veteran starters are healthy? Teams rarely ever rotate CBs like they do with DLinemen.

* CeeDee should get more snaps.
* I didn't even notice TE Bunting on offense.
* Glad to have OL depth.
* Malik Hooker should eat into Kazze's snaps.

Time on the field numbers will be deep, once the off season and future evaluations reach the table...

Williams played RG the one snap Martin was out.

Joseph pick looking dubious at this point. Too lazy to look up the hit rate for 2nd rounders by this club the last 10byears but it cant be good.

Bossman Fat is Jerrys latest roll of the second round dice. Will he pan out? Stay tuned to find out.

He got a snap at LG when Zack went out

I wasn’t suggesting Kelvin Joseph should be starting. Just noting that our second round draft pick 3/4 into the season hasn’t played. I know he was injured early but seems significant that he hasn’t played meaningful downs.

Joseph really needs to step it up.

Confused about why y’all are wary about Joseph not playing a ton of defensive snaps. Brown has had some bad moments but he’s been a solid starter the whole year. This defense is clicking and the chemistry and continuity of the back end seems fine. Why would they randomly just change the lineup?

We all knew Joseph was a 1-year starter at UK and would need a bit of time before overtaking a starting spot. Don’t know why we act like coaches are just going to pull productive vets mid-season for a rookie just because fans are antsy. This is a position by the way that’s a hard transition year 1. Especially without him winning the job out of camp (which isn’t egregious as AB is a solid vet), there’s no reason to expect a shakeup in the lineup without injury.

I could understand if we were bad at CB and he couldn’t crack the lineup, but outside of the Bucs and Raiders games we’ve been solid to good back there. I don’t see a reason for concern, sometimes circumstances dictate reduced playing time for a rookie and sometimes they dictate ample playing time.

For every LVE who comes out firing his rookie year there’s a Byron Jones who comes on later. He’ll get his chance and we can judge him then, before that I think it’s just much ado about nothing.

My question to y’all is, when would you have put in Joseph (AB rebounded well from the Raiders flag debacle)? Secondly, would you mess with the way the backend has been playing? Remember if a CB is shaky his first few starts that is normal, but would we want to ride out the bumps in a season where we are rolling on defense?

I think it’s a simple case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, not some indictment on Joseph’s ability.

Yep CW kept reporting as eligible.

Why would they take starters off the field?

Darren Woodson only started 2 games as a rookie.

Larry Allen didn't start as a rookie until starters were out injured.

People are super spoiled with draft picks starting day 1 because this franchises roster building model forces them to play rookies early as there are often starting spots available due to a reluctance/lack of talent in resigning and signing FA’s.

Had AB or JLew been good enough to score bigger deals then a starting spot for a rookie CB would’ve been necessary. And since signing high caliber FA’s isn’t a part of this FO’s roster plan, we usually see spots basically handed to rookies as we refuse to sign any guaranteed alternatives.

I don’t think Chido starts if Nolan Carroll isn’t a bargain bin signing for example. But since the team didn’t resign Carr and Carroll was bad, he had to play. Probably would’ve behooved him to learn behind a solid vet but he never got that chance. He’s developed into a good starter in Cincy because, you know, guys grow over time.

Using 5+ olinemen. It seemed like such a good idea when the oline was blocking so well earlier in the season.

I’m merely making the point that our second round pick isn’t playing at all. You’re the only one mentioning him as a starter. Not sure what you’re arguing with?
