Danny also fired Marty Schottenheimer and hired Steve Spurrier.

I'm overreacting on the Snyder bit, but I don't need Snyder firing Norval to recognize that he's been pathetic as an HC

that's the problem, looking at Norval's track record as HC, I doubt he has the ability to give it to anyone, despite his owners and fan-base

As I mentioned before a coach is only as good as the talent he has on the field. Jimmy was great when he had great talent but did not look great in Maimi. When Turner was in Dallas as OC he produced a great offense and he called the shots not Johnson. Jimmy never called plays be in on defense or offense, he left that up to people he trusted and Norv was one of the team. You give Norv good talent and I think he can succeed.

I'm not worried about what our O is going to look like, it's our D

True and I would expect a defensive coach to be brought in. I mentioned in another thread my gut feeling is Phillips will get the job, all I'm saying is Norv would not be a bad hire and I would be willing to accept Turner as the HC if he were named.

I'm against the idea of bringing in Norv to coach as well, but the fact that Snyder fired him doesn't help our argument against him. :lmao:

without a doubt - I think this will be Norv best stop because he has much more going for him this time.

1. He has huge support from Jerry Jones...did he really have that anywhere else?

2. The offense is already strong in most phases. The QB needs more grooming and this is where Norv is worth his weight in gold.

3. Norv has Jason Garrett (who he tried it get while in Oakland).

Something just tells me Norv does better than most think. Jimmy Johnson and Aikman both have said this is the guy for the job - they might now a thing or two about Norv abilities.

also, maybe Aikman lightens up on his heavy-handed critisim of Dallas during the games....since his boy Norv is coaching Dallas. I for one would welcome that.

I agree.... Turner is ok by me!

I remember an interview back when Aikman was playing and he said they would ask the defense "how many points the offense needed to score".........

I don't understand this post. Is it an anti-Norv post, or an anti-Snyder post?

In Snyder's first year, Norv almost took the 'Skins to the NFC championship game, and would have if it wasn't for a botched field goal.

In his second year, he fired him while the team was still in playoff contention. Would they have made the playoffs if he remained? Who knows, but we do know they didn't make them as a result.

Either way, Snyder looks more like a fool to me.

Snyder was a fool because he didn't fire Turner right away

A few years ago Snyder apologized to Casserly saying that "I fired the wrong guy"

If he comes in and fires Turner before 1999 and keeps Casserly, I don't think the Commanders are hoping to make a 52 yard FG in the divisional round of the playoffs to move on to the NFC title game

You had me until you said keeping Casserly would have ensured success. That guy is a joke as a GM.

Yeah, they'd probably not even reach the playoffs.

Seriously, what has Casserly done? How did he help Houston in any way?

Look at his drafts while in H-town. Casserly should be charged with a crime for impersonating an NFL General Manager.

He and Merrill Hoge are also the charter members of the "We Hate Vince Young" club.

I agree. Casserly would not have ensured success. However, to his credit he had put together a pretty quality team (finally!) by 1999. If he had been around, instead of Norval and had the chance to hire another head coach in 1999, thigns may have been better

No gurantee that Casserly would have been a success. I am as big of a CC critic as I am of Norv Turner. But I think CC>Norv Turner

Norv Turner actually got the Commanders to the playoffs so that's an accomplishment in itself...

Kinda like the Cowboys winning a playoff game once in a decade, right? ;)

Here's what I don't understand about NOT wanting Norv Turner. Most of the complaints I read during and after games the last couple of seasons was how predictable our offense had become and how BP was playing games simply to not lose them.

Turner was responsible for some of the best offensive teams in Cowboys history. So it seems from all the compliants that people would be happy that Jerry was going to bring back one of the best offensive coaches this team has ever had. Who cares about his previous head coaching record, BP's lack of success proves you can't base it on a coaches previous record alone.

I'm willing to give Turner the benefit of the doubt and would welcome him as our next head coach. I think he will bring a spark to the offense that this team has been missing. Along with a new, young defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator I think they will get the most out of this team and have it ready to move to the next level that BP couldn't seem to be able to do.

One of Norv's most baffling game plans as head coach came against your Cowboys

The 2000 MNF game at Fedex Field (week 3) which was a 27-21 win for Dallas and Campos first win as head coach

Brad Johnson threw 47 passes that game against a bad Cowboys run D. The Commanders had Stephen Davis and a very good o-line, yet Norv for some inexplicable reason decided to air it out, with only one good WR threat (Albert Connel was still considered 'good' in 2000) Anytime the Commanders ran the ball, they moved the ball down field

For some reason, Norv would have those brain fart game plans as head coach, where instead of sticking with the run that would be working, he would decide to air it out for no reason at all.
