Orlando Pace is scheduled to make a base salary of about $7.2 million per year for the next 3 years. I seriously doubt anyone would value him at a higher level than that. Somewhere between 5-7 million seems about right to me.

You want to put your Franchise player ( Romo) at risk with an unproven Utlitly player. No thanks.
Keep Flo for 2-3 more years and if Cleveland you can get a top 5 pick from Cleveland , you pick jake Long if McFadden is gone. If not, then get pick Sam baker from SC.
I hate that people put some much faith in mid to late round draft picks. Probably 75 % of them wont be on a team in 3 years. People grow too attached to players just because your team selected them.
But with that said.. McQ might have a chance to play Tackle in this league, but I'm not sure if he is agile enough to protect Tnoy's blindside. Only an Injury to Flo will tell and I hope that NEVER happens.

He incredibly athletic for an offensive linemen and looked pretty good prior to injury.
The best bet might be to franchise Flozell for a year and get Free another year of seasoning (he does need to work on his strength), but I think Free will be your long term LT.
I really doubt the team burns a high first round pick on a LT.

That has value, I keep this line together personally. A lot to be said for continuity. Candidly, I might consider moving him inside to Guard.

The spoiler might be how much he wants, and for how long... but the Boys have good cap room at the moment, so unless his asking price is completely outrageous, it shouldn't be that big an issue for Jerry... which leaves the length of his contract; I say sign him to a 5-6 year deal, but structure it so the Boys can part company with him in 2 or 3 years if necessary (as others have noted, offensive linemen can play until they're 40 sometimes) without taking a killer cap hit...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
theogt;1686890 said:Kosier got 5 years $15 million. The contract I said that Flo might get would be twice that. Do you really believe that Flozell is more than twice as valuable as Kosier?
Edit: If you do think that, then we better re-sign him quick!!
wileedog;1687773 said:For the record, I'm not advocating letting him go.
I just think those who think he's going to sign a cap-friendly 2 year deal while we develop his replacement are delusional.
The price tag for O-lineman has been skyrocketing year after year. And it looks like a week FA class and the Cap number continues to rise.
Plus he's 33 and his agent knows this is his last payday - they are going to be very resistant to any contract that's easily escapable in 2-3 years.
We'll see what happens, but my bet is the decision is really whether to make a huge commitment to him or not - because I think other teams will. I don't think we have the "just hold him for 2 years" option, IMHO.
dillinger319;1687846 said:Two words... Winston Justice.. When Mcnabb got sacked 6 times by Osi you heard his name being called out not the LG. LT is one of the premium positions in the NFL and were not going to have a "good" tackle protecting Romos backside for a cheap price....[/quote]
Yet people here believe you can stick a late round pick in there and they will produce to be a starter at one of the most important positions on offense.
Sure there are some busts at LT in the first round but the upper echlon of LT's in the league are taken high.. Here are some examples....
Pace 1 rd 1 pick
Ogden 1 rd 4 pick
Samuels 1 rd 3 pick
T Thomas 1 rd 11 pick
W Jones 1 rd 6 pick
Jamaal Brown 1 rd 10 pick
B McKinnie 1 rd 7 pick
L Jones 1 rd 10 pick
Flozell 2 rd 38 pick
K Barnes 2 rd 52 pick
Joe Thomas 1 rd 3 pick
Levi Jones 1 rd 10 pick
D Ferguson 1 rd 4 pick
The stud LT's are taken in the first round. Not saying a later round pick can't play the position, just that chances are against them to play at a high level in this league. If you want to replace a pro bowl caliber LT in Flo, pick a LT in the first round or else watch Tony get Osi'd.

Facing Dwight Freeney whether it's preseason or not counts for something, regardless of whether you ignore or not.McCordsville Cowboy;1687682 said:He might turn out to be our LT, who knows...
But looking good against MAC competition and NFL preseason doesn't equate to much...
These numbers are just silly. I gave you market numbers for a guy his age.jdnoyes;1687655 said:LT is the second highest paid position in the league. Flo makes mistakes but he is still a top 10 LT. Unless we franchise him some team with the cap space will come calling. This time last year people would have called you crazy if you said Leonard Davis would get a 7 year/49M contract, but that was the market, and I think the market for Flo will be even higher. I could easily see him getting in the range of a 5 year/40-45M contract.
I just don't see Jerry matching that unless the staff feels Free/McQ just aren't ready. To me the franchise tag makes way too much sense unless we are forced to use it on Romo in which case I think Flo walks. The Seahawks franchised Walter Jones 3 straight years. It just works in Flo's case. No huge bonus tied up in an aging player. Keep him for 1-2 more years and hope somebody is ready to play by then.
That's fine as long as you have someone that can replace him. Keeping him, if we have the cap space, couldn't hurt.dallasfan;1687792 said:Better to get rid of someone a year early, than a year late.
Go into 08' with Free and McQuistern battling at LT.

I'm not worried about the penalties. People who say that are simply misinformed. Flozell averages between 4 and 5 false starts per season. That's not far from his contemporaries (i.e., other pro bowl LTs).McCordsville Cowboy;1688183 said:I remember the game but its still preseason.. Sure it counts to have some film on the guy but other than that it just like Free going up against Ware in practice.. It's just practice.
Flo should stay. He is worth 5 mill a year. Especially when you have room under the cap. Although he is 'the most penalized man on earth'.
