So excited about our "D" potential now...

I hate to break it to some of you..but Parcells 3-4 and Phillips 3-4 are very similar. The only difference was that Wade had the personnel to be more aggressive. If Parcells had SD defensive personnel...he would have lead the league in blitzing also.

you're right, except for the fact that San Diego doubled our number of blitzes, almost tripled it

edit: and Bill's D relies on beating the man in front of you, Phillip's is more about disguise

If Parcells 3-4 style defense is so vastly different (as some have said) then why would you make Bowles (parcells 3-4 defense coach) your DC of Wade Phillips aggressive blitzing 3-4. Something just doesn't add up there. If they are different defenses...then Bowles isn't the guy for Wade system.

It is being reported that Phillips will be bringing in coaches to be part of his staff.

Belichek runs a different 3-4 than Parcells. Just because someone coaches under Parcells doesn't mean their an exact clone. Sheesh.

the reason Dallas had a read-and-react defense was because they didnt have anyone to get to the QB. Do you really think Parcells wanted his defense to be that conservative? Give me a break....he ran one of the most aggressive 3-4 in history (while with Giants). I find it almost laughable at how some think Parcells didnt know what he was doing with 3-4. The only way Wade can run an aggressive 3-4 blitzing defense is to acquire new talent on that side of the ball.

The Giants weren't aggressive. They just had Lawrence Taylor. His presence alone changed the appearance of the defense. He was just so good at sacking the QB. When he didn't sack the QB, he at least pressured the QB, which allowed someone else to get the sack. Teams often doubled him or even tripled the blocking on him. That opens up space for other defenders. It was not an aggressive scheme. Just one anchored with a great pass rusher.

They also had Harry Carson, Carl Banks, Pepper Johnson, Jim Burt, and Leonard Marshall...when your front 7 has 2 HOF players and 4 guys that went to multiple pro bowls it's easy to line em up and tell them go beat your man.
