I think what they have do so far is great. VanDerEsch on a decent deal, wilson deal good, letting Zeke go, keeping pollard, restructure Tyron with an incentive deal based upon his availability, likey saying goodbye to schultz(Even though he is very underrated as far as his contributions) But you drafted those TEs last year knowing Schutlz was gone and the young guys need to step up. Stephon Gilmore for one of those 5th round picks they just got....

Now need a lineman in draft, RB, and lets see if we sign a DT here soon. If not, need to draft another.

The big one for me is getting Hopkins... thats who I want. The guy still balled out last year the second he returned from that suspension even playing with a hodge podge of QBs. We clearly need a WR.. so lets get going on that FO... isnt will McClay the man?? So Im gonna blame him if he doesnt get it done. He gets all the credit for anything that goes well.

So how would you rate them so far

So far, a 9.

Why? The Gilmore deal was exceptional. And one of the biggest factors, we haven't done anything stupid.

Now, this grade immediately drops to a 3 if we don't take care of the NT position. We saw what Hankins did, so if we once again ignore it, our grade becomes CRAPP.

Much better than I expected.

While I’m on record disagreeing with tagging Pollard, I think most everything else they’ve done has met or exceeded my expectations. The deals to keep Wilson, Vander Esch, and Tyron Smith have all been better than I thought they’d be.

Team is doing well. The biggest hole was ILB and CB2. Both are taken care of.

I still, would like a few more additions before the draft

[DT - Sign A’shawn Robinson or re-sign Jonathan Hankins]
[WR - Sign one of DJ Chark, Marvin Jones Jr., Parris Campbell.

Draft
(1) Dalton Kindcaid, TE, Utah
(2) Steve Avila, LG, TCU
(3) Henson Hooker, QB, Tennessee.

This should cover all of the spots needed to be filled

We should recind the tag and sign a couple of backs.....Pollard is not a bell cow. We may even be able to sign him for a better deal.

Not on board with tagging Pollard. If he heals properly which he should, I am fine with him on the team. Maybe they can work out a contract before the deadline, July 15th?

As much as I was hoping Zeke could stay, it was the right move to get out of that contract when they could. Dak may be next if he doesn't do well this season, like getting to the NFCCG, if he loses another game, especially to SF.

Gilmore trade was great, and restructures of the other contracts were very good, and keeping Wilson and LVE is very good also.
I say an A so far.

Agreed.

With this defense last year bringing back Wilson and LVE and adding Gilmore is great. The only 3 starters we lost / haven’t brought back were Brown, Barr and Hankins. Two of those we have no interest and bringing back.

Still early but I would say good so far.

However, the Cowboys are like the guy that fell off the 20 story building and they ask him how he was doing at the 10th floor, "so far, so good".

Why? Don't you think it's smart to see what he does this season before considering a longer contract?
Never sign RBs to long-term second contracts. Period. Yes, it's possible you'll miss out on the one guy in a hundred who doesn't decline steeply in his late 20s, but I'd rather do that than repeat the utterly predictable Zeke situation.

The franchise tag is fine. Even if it doesn't work out, it comes with no out-year obligations, which is really all that matters.

I’m honestly not sure who’s still out there.
We have a couple on the roster and we can draft one....Pollard would probably sign a 3 or 4 year deal with guaranteed money

Problem is he has no incentive to signing a more team friendly deal. He’s making 10m$ this year if he stays pat, plus whatever contract he gets after that from Dallas or someone else with upfront bonuses. So a longer deal would have to beat that

Wait. Wut? You were hoping that Zeke could stay? Really?!?!?

Many of us were "hoping" that he wouldn't have been extended several years ago.

And now, he was an absolutely detriment to any potential success to our team.

Always "hope" for what is best for the Cowboys. Not for any individual player....

The incentive is security....if gets hurt again this year, his value will plummet...4 year deal with guaranteed money and signing bonus up front will provide long-term security
