That's what I'm saying. I completely agree w/ tagging him. Great move. I'm trying to understand why people are against it. Doesn't make sense to me.Never sign RBs to long-term second contracts. Period. Yes, it's possible you'll miss out on the one guy in a hundred who doesn't decline steeply in his late 20s, but I'd rather do that than repeat the utterly predictable Zeke situation.
The franchise tag is fine. Even if it doesn't work out, it comes with no out-year obligations, which is really all that matters.
This is how you use the tag, get a year out of a guy while you decide what to do. After that, you can release him at no cost, or you can sign him to a longer term contract if you so desire. The tag is an excellent tool for both. They player gets paid very well for a year, and the team gets the needed time to evaluate.
