It wasn't because of the preseason pick. It was because the guy had been roundly panned in Dallas, right before going on an playing 3 more seasons on a playoff defense that was better than anything we'd been able to field in the interim. He didn't deserve the criticism he got from our fans then, and doesn't really deserve it for whiffing on a tackle this weekend. Especially given that he was hardly the reason that Bengals team got embarrassed this weekend in the first place.

Cmon Idg, even you can admit that was funny. And, it was more than a whif. It was a "I'm scared" ,and don't wanna hit type of play. If one of our current guys did that, we'd all be calling for his benching...

It was an awful play, sure. I wasn't defending the play. Just the criticism of the player in general.

That poor guy took more undeserved ish from some of our fans for simply being in the frame of a bad play than any player I can remember in recent history. He then went on to play several more seasons at a relatively high level on a better defense than ours, without so much as a 'hmmm, guess I was wrong about him not being able to play' from most of them. And he was a good player for us for a long time. I think he deserves better than he got.
