Williams is a very good DT. We have not had a DT of his caliber in quite a bit of time. Now with Clark and Odi, the Cowboys have a pretty good DT rotation, something many of us have been clamoring for since who knows when.

The cost seems a bit high but it was always going to cost you a premium to get a top notch DT. So while I bristle at the cost, I can at least understand it.

Where I struggle is that this just seems more of the kind of haphazard roster building we see constantly from Jerry. How did he go from telling us in August he really liked our defensive talent assembled and that they were happy with what they added at DT to in a span of two months, making two major trades to fill a clear hole that any sane person knew was a problem when they broke camp. And when he finally realizes what most of us already saw, he's already dug himself a big hole that will be tough to get out from this year. In all reality, as much as I like Williams, we should be probably looking to the future and parlaying these top picks into a rebuild. We made a major trade as if we were a legit contender. We are not. This smells of Jerry overvaluing what he built yet again.

So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, I still don't how I feel about the trade. LOL.

I am fine with the trade. He is the best DT they’ve had since La’roi glover. Literally over 20 years.

I don’t think it’ll change anything this year. It’s too late.

But it will be good the next 2-3 years. The FO better put the rest of the pieces in place needed on defense for next season. They need to be aggressive in FA and land two good players with their first. If they do. The defense could be completely transformed for next year.

Without Quinnen Williams, who would be the superstar up front the Cowboys would build the defense around?

Without Williams, who plays DT besides Osa with both Kenny Clark and Solomon Thomas getting older?

I know there is still a need at edge rusher, but Donovan Ezeiruaku is starting to show up. Line him up right next to Williams and I think the kid is going to feast.

I'll go with Jay Ratliff, but see your point.

Because in August, nobody's allowed to hit anyone and they all look great in shorts. When the real hitting starts (real games now, the pre-season hardly matters anymore), then we can easily see the short-comings.

I wonder how everyone who likes this trade is going to feel next year when Jerry doesn’t resign Williams early and we are in the Parson’s situation again in 2027.

Everyone has been clamoring for DT's for a long time. That's been the weak spot on the D-line. Now, everyone will start clamoring for DE's, or LB's, or secondary. Stopping the run is about the whole package. This problem is most definitely not solved.

This was a panic move by the GM. Those draft picks could have been solid players for years to come. On cheap rookie contracts too. It's a defeatist attitude to think Dallas should trade away the picks because they don't know how to use them.

Dallas' building plan has long been just assembling names and talent. For some reason it has kind of worked out on offense but not on defense.

What’s the point of paying Osi?or are we letting Clark walk after the season. Why would we pay huge money for 3 DTs when we can only play two at a time in most situations?
Typical Jerry has an overreaction and zero long term plan.

Honestly, I think the old gambling Jerry is back. The one from the 80s and 90s. It appears the Parsons trade has given him new motivation to prove he can still GM with the young cats. Notice he was so excited he couldn't wait for the official date to talk about it. I don't think he's anywhere close to being done. IMO, we can expect to see him add at least one, maybe two, high-level free agents AND be very active during the draft. Perhaps converting/trading one or both 1st round picks to recoup 2nd and 3rd round picks.

In other words, fasten your seatbelts.......Jerry is about to show us he still has it (lol)

I dont know how to feel about it either, I love the player, but based on history, we know there really isnt a plan from this FO........just seeing what sticks, to heck with cohesiveness and chemistry.

Im just wondering if the current DC will be here next year if the defense this year continues to dissapoint.

Yep. This trade was made for only one reason - Jerry saw a 3-13-1 season in the making. No other reason than that.
