So having digested the trade for 24 hours

Great trade. Immediate impact player for one of the 2027 1sts. That's all that matters honestly. In 2026 Dallas has 2 1st round picks to fortify the defense. Hopefully upgrade a few defensive spots via free agency and actually content for post season success.

We've done nothing on the defensive side for a long time. It's been always K-Mart special type of signing/trades. It's about time Jerry does something on that side. People complain about Jones boys not doing anything and when they do, they are still complaining about it.

We suck at drafting defensive players. It's better to get a proven player that will help the team immediately than have them draft someone like Kelvin Joseph, Mazi Smith, Taco, Jaylon Smith, and hope they work out in few years.

1+ ...This is exactly what I am expecting ..........

Everyone has been clamoring for DT's for a long time. That's been the weak spot on the D-line. Now, everyone will start clamoring for DE's, or LB's, or secondary. Stopping the run is about the whole package. This problem is most definitely not solved.

This was a panic move by the GM. Those draft picks could have been solid players for years to come. On cheap rookie contracts too. It's a defeatist attitude to think Dallas should trade away the picks because they don't know how to use them.
Very very likely any DT we drafted would not be as good. Cheaper yes, but not near as good.

These moves give us a little bit of hope this year.too.

He's never been mediocre, so don't know why he suddenly would be.
He has 1 sack and 3QB hits this season. They didn’t give up two premium picks for just a run stuffer. Hopefully he’ll be rejuvenated getting out of the Jets organization.

Q. Williams and L. Wilson are upgrades at DT n MLB helping the middle. The DC is terrible and will continue to drag this team down no matter what. Anyways, Jerry has acquired three 3Ts this of season and 3 MLBs, this is poor roster building imo. The offseason will be a reshuffling at DT because all these picks and all this money and still no true NT to anchor this whole thing.

Williams is the NT to anchor this D.

The problem(as I see it) is we will have to get rid of one next offseason. I am guessing Clarke turns into a one year rental. What a waste.
Patrik Walker put out a plan where it's reasonable to think we don't have to get rid of anyone and still have money leftover! :omg:

Yep. This trade was made for only one reason - Jerry saw a 3-13-1 season in the making. No other reason than that.
And he needs to justify running back the same coaching staff. The "plan" isn't to make the playoffs so much as it is get back to "around the rim" so Jerry can keep selling optimism. I'm fine with the trade, but it's too late for this year.

Williams is a very good DT. We have not had a DT of his caliber in quite a bit of time. Now with Clark and Odi, the Cowboys have a pretty good DT rotation, something many of us have been clamoring for since who knows when.

The cost seems a bit high but it was always going to cost you a premium to get a top notch DT. So while I bristle at the cost, I can at least understand it.

Where I struggle is that this just seems more of the kind of haphazard roster building we see constantly from Jerry. How did he go from telling us in August he really liked our defensive talent assembled and that they were happy with what they added at DT to in a span of two months, making two major trades to fill a clear hole that any sane person knew was a problem when they broke camp. And when he finally realizes what most of us already saw, he's already dug himself a big hole that will be tough to get out from this year. In all reality, as much as I like Williams, we should be probably looking to the future and parlaying these top picks into a rebuild. We made a major trade as if we were a legit contender. We are not. This smells of Jerry overvaluing what he built yet again.

So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, I still don't how I feel about the trade. LOL.
When your fans see holes in your roster that you as GM can't see, it's time for a new GM.

Hopefully, Williams will make it clear to Jerry how important it is to have a great player at that position, so that he makes it a priority even after the next few years.

im not coming to any conclusions until we hear from CCBoy. I'd like to get a former linebackers opinion.

Why anyone listens to Jerry's talent assessment is beyond me. Your own assessment is most likely more accurate, if you any kind of analytical tendencies, and are not a hope is strategy type of fan.

Did you take into account the team around him?

It was a good trade: How many draft picks have been wasted trying to find a solid DT? We've drafted 1+ every year starting in 2020 and not much to show for it.

I think it makes it much easier when you realizie that when Jerry says stuff like “we fixed our defense” and these proclamations it’s all a sales job.

He’s selling the fan base. Don’t believe a word he says it’s all fluff
